I love Korea. But this is where i part a bit with them. The government was pissed and banned a person from the country cause their feelings were hurt. That kind of action is not appropriate at all. His career would likely be over anyways due to public dislike so no need for government to take that type of sction. Again, love most everything about Korea but some things are just wrong. (Aa in many countries i might add)

Korea is good sometimes but they really are judgmental honestly...this is not towards all Koreans but i’m just saying there are people worse then him yet still he is apparently the most hated idol?? There are so many cases like his and also people loose their fellow idol/friend because of their judgements
This can lead to suicide if anyone i feel most sorrow to “idols” they aren’t treated properly and even small mistakes can literally get them banned smh

I wonder what today’s Korean celebrities think of this? Do they feel sympathy for someone who made such a huge mark as a solo artist in Korea back in the day? I remember YSJ being one of the most adored and respected entertainers in a sea of boy/idol groups back in the early days of k-pop. I feel bad for how it ended for him, and as an expat, it’s a shame that these kinds of pressures and (double) standards make us feel denied and unwanted by our own home country.

I get it, he def shouldn’t be the “most hated man in Korea” but y’all are acting like Korea is the only country to care about small things like this and hold grudges?? Sure but America does it too. We literally have a term for it: cancel culture. Literally if someone tweeted out when they were 10 years old calling something “gay” they wouldn’t have a career anymore. Stop being so hypocritical, it’s not a good look. If you’re going to judge, judge everyone equally, not just countries you have no ties to and can shit on easily.

I mean, it's understandable to fear war and the military. Do I think it was right? No. But I can understand where he's coming from. Do I think people should have reacted as severely as they did? No. But that's their decision and there's nothing he can do about that. Just enjoy your retirement money, man. Your kids can go when they want to, and you can call them and tell them about where you were born.

I was reading the comments here and it shows that a lot of people are new to the Korean music scene (frankly Asian music scene ) and they don’t know that when this all happened the way that an idol was treated was much different and that the standards were much higher. Even though Yoo Seung-Jun was accepted in the k music area he was still a foreigner and was treated as such by many people so when a “foreigner” decided to serve military time and then went back on his word he was ostracized by all .

If you knew that at the time leaving your career would completely end it over something you didn’t want to do, and was being forced to do, why would you do it? Like it’s out of your control, and you want to be something else, but basically it would ruin your career. Honestly just sounded smart

I've read another comment either u guys don't know how necessary man in korea to serve military. Korea is not a country with a large population and serving the military is also a matter for the security of their country. This artist will serve the military but go to America for awhile and return as American citizens. Not that of course make the Korean public angry? If it is a state rule and he violates it, the sanctions must also be commensurate with what he did. And public hatred certainly hurts him but that is social sanction for his actions. He is not just violate state rules, but also betray the public.
