Everything Wrong With The Mummy (1999)

  • Dipublikasikan tanggal 6 Jun 2017
  • With the new Tom Cruise Mummy movie hitting theaters, we figured it was finally time to go back to the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies and look for sins. So that's what we did! And there were A LOT!
May is Mental Health Month, and even though it's June now, it's still a subject that means a lot to us here at CinemaSins. Yes, it's June now technically, but we are still honoring Mental Health Month for a bit longer.
In fact, we’re partnering with Mental Health America (MHA) to not only to raise awareness of mental health issues - but also to raise a little money, too. We’ve got a brand-new Cinema Sins t-shirt in the shop, and all of the profits from the sale of the shirt will be donated to our friends at MHA.
Click here to check out or purchase the shirt: www.districtlines.com/109796-Color-Logo/Cinema-Sins
Thursday: A movie not nearly as much fun as this one.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

I may be inaccurate given my knowledge of the Legion, but Foreign officers can serve as second officers under the command of a French commander.

8:31 I’m still trying to figure out why they left the body of the mummy half way out of the sarcophagus instead of putting it back where they found it especially since the woman has so much respect for the dead

I really do love this movie and the love story and everything Egyptian but its far too goofy and they get things historically wrong.. "Evelyn says in the movie that they take out all your organs during mummification, including your heart. It is believed that the Egyptians left the heart in the body because it was the seat of intelligence and feelings. " In Egyptian mythology, cats were associated with the goddesses Bastet (fertility, motherhood and protection) and Sekhmet (healing) and not the Underworld." All the beetles in the movie are Dung beetles.. Yup.. How does Eve know he can read an inscription and control the guards? Trivia! - They originally wanted to have all the Meiji covered in tattoos head to toe but the director though Adarth Bay was too attractive for that. Dam right!

The quest of this movie was copied scene-for-scene from the 1968 movie "MACKENNA'S GOLD".

I've watched several of these and finally realized they're really not about "what's wrong" with a movie very much - which is ok (although a little disappointing). I was more kind of hoping for stuff like you can see a camera boom, or about historical inaccuracy, or someone's appearance changing between shots, and so forth, rather than an annotated version of the movie with accompanying semi-comedic banter regarding (mostly) what seems slightly 'off' or illogical or they just don't like. Millions watch CinemaSins, so I suppose the comedic summary shtick is entertaining and amusing, but kind of myeh for me, and the title about 'everything wrong' is just wrong - just like they said in Avatar - it's just WRONG.

This may seem weird but I always thought Imhotep was a sympathetic character. He risked his life to free a woman he desperately loved. A woman who was a slave, a concubine. They both just wanted something better. In those times young women, even girls were forced into marriages to much older men that they did not love and barely knew. When you factor in the additional back story we learned in the Mummy Returns I don't think it would be a stretch to retell the story from Imhotep's perspective and he come out the hero.

Maybe I was just hopelessly optimistic when I first saw this film, but that bit when Beni's stolen treasure from the city and looks back - did anyone else wonder if, even for a second, he was actually regretting selling out the others and considering going back to redeem himself?

Funny how the British, French, Israeli and americans came to Egypt to steall as much as possible, just like the brits did in India etc... If you go to the british museum in London you can see that none of the stuff is actually from england.
But this movie somehow makes it seem like they did Egypt a favor 😄 Just like 'spreading democracy' was to steal recourses and install a more favorable regime
Still an awsome movie thou haha

The disrespectful killing of Muslim people in this movie is unquestionably the reflection of social attitude programming by the filmmakers and writers of this factually inaccurate movie. Brendan Fraser just breezes over the killings and deaths of others. By current standards its not politically correct at best and perhaps at worst The Mummy movies were a completely anti-Egyptian/ Muslim mash up of facts mixed with attractive J. female leading characters

Regarding blue gold, iirc from my reading of metallurgical texts that such a metal indeed exists, and is an alloy of gold and another metal, like gallium or indium. I highly doubt the ancient Egyptians were making such gold products though, so still pretty dubious to include.
