Mark Zuckerberg ‘deepfake’ will remain online

Dear Mark Zuckerberg, I will be forced to report you, because on facebook you temporarily prevent me from writing posts and comments, for no other reason my use of these applications is normal! I have knowledge of magistrates pieces of 90, so you do. I await answers as soon as possible!

Ok I actually was looking him up because some of the images I’ve seen of him looked like he wasn’t a real person. I just did a google image search of his name to look at and compare images of him and I came across this video. In some more recent images his eyes look odd to me, rather lifeless. This makes a some sense as to why.

The software will never be able to get the lighting right because it doesn't have 3d lighting data. Changing the lighting properly on the target face to the source face is too difficult. You'll always be able to spot a deep fake. Now if you re-create the person in 3d with the proper lighting, then yes, that kind of deep fake would be hard to figure out. In about another hundred years rendering tech will be so good, you can render a real person with no problems.

What if Mark Zuckerberg is the Antichrist? I mean it is prophesized that the Antichrist will bring everyone together and will be hailed as a savior. Facebook is bringing everyone together and he's not really being hailed as a savior, but he's practically doing everything the prophecy foretold. I mean what if Facebook is Babylon, the city the Antichrist is supposed to reign over in the Bible?

lol their spin on it is "negative impact on election", you can't have a negative impact on something that is already complete garbage.

There are more far reaching issues deepfakes will have then the silly little election of the laughing stock country of the world.

As a software developer of some 25+ years of software development experience I am really concerned that ethics is not taught to software developers.
This deepfake development is clearly a serious ethical breech on the part of software developers.
While it may, on the surface, look like fun - this sort of development is going to have a seriously negative effect on evidence in court cases.
It won't be too long before a case comes to trial where the defendant is obviously guilty based on video evidence but the judge will not allow video evidence in court due to the possibility of it being a deepfake video.
Deepfake is a really concerning development - those of us old enough will remember the original Star Trek "Court Martial" episode.

@Meatman Meatman That's not a panacea, nor a silver bullet. "Instant analysis" doesn't bode well at all because it means that AI is being used yet again, and that is not merely a theoretical concern. Lemme explain.
If you look up 'Generative Adversarial Networks' (the original paper is free online) you'll see an explanation of how an AI that recognizes fakes can be used as an 'oracle' for an AI that **generates** fakes. Since it can evaluate the work of the faking AI much more quickly than even a large team of humans could, it allows the faking AI to learn from its own mistakes and swiftly improve the output until it can successfully trick the fake-recognizer. The fake-recognizer can of course then be improved against __those__ outputs, but you can see where this leads... ultimately right to a stalemate.
Now, granted, a tool developed by DARPA would limit convincing fakes to highly-resourced agents who have access to sufficient computational resources to trick their engine, but the moment they put it online and allow anyone to use it, malicious actors could __immediately__ start learning its weakpoints. And given that it would likely need to run on top of a supercluster, it wouldn't be cheap to keep online nor up-to-date.
Slarti is correct that the only real antidote is for videos to be digitally signed by known authorities whose private signing keys are kept secure.

What a sad commentary that Facebook will not take action - it has removed many things that are far less controversial. Facebook needs a different policy to show it can be trusted. the sad thing is that FB not taking down fake videos could change the results of the 2020 election. Who is paying FB to keep that stuff up? What does FB get in return? Always follow the money.

  • Rich Lee

This is a sad and pivotal moment in history. We've already had to deal with altered photographs. Now video isn't reliable as well. Even memory can be manipulated. Truth exists, but it's increasingly hard to prove.

    • Otto Beumelburg
      Otto Beumelburg Bulan Yang lalu

Well, partly nonsense. It's no more sad than the fact a whole generation has been addicting, isolating & killing themselves from the mentally unstable tech world. The fakes themselves I find easy to distinguish, first off you can't allow for much movement, the video output is necessarily rubbish quality & the voice impressions are always off, with the exception of Lyrebird AI. what's sad is that nobody seems to remember where DeepFakes came from, who started spinning it, what initiated it & why. The saddest of all is people don't & won't believe the level of depravity these people have committed on video, so that DFs will be to blame if ever there is a leak.

Its not just gonna appear on Facebook. You now HAVE to question every piece of information you view and check it against other sources. We are near the point where real and fake are almost indistinguishable. If an A.I were to be designed to create a fake post and then create links to and from it to make it look credible or legitimate, we would be royally screwed

@joefyn Not him bt to me, free means without coercive intervention from any entity that has the intention of preventing me to accomplish whatever goal I have.

Yes, child porn and stuff may be easily accesible to kids, but with enough education they can be taught how to avoid that kind of content, and children in general are more interested in whatever PewDiePie has uploaded and their Fortnite videostreams.
And I know this sounds disturbing and like an advocacy to allow all sortas of content created by evil people, but excessive surveillance along with censorship won't tackl the root of the issue, the pedophile networks that ae actally raping children and recording it. That's what really needs to be fought in order to consequently prevent any child pornography from being uploaded.
To address your final statement about the need of an entity like the state to regulate human behavior, remember that the State is also formed by people, many of them demagogues who will just tell you what you want to hear in order to gain votes. Remember that since they're also human, then by logic it follows that they will also need to be regulated. Constitutional limits have not been proven to be a completely effective tool against ever-growing authoritarian and orwellian policies. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

    • joefyn
      joefyn 4 bulan yang lalu

what does 'free' mean to you? i presume you aren't okay with child porn and terrorist propaganda like beheadings being easily accessible, even promoted to kids? the best kind of freedom is one where we are protected from harm. where to draw the line? i guess that depends on how much you think individuals and groups can be trusted to do the right thing for everyone (not just their family and friends) if left to their own devices. when you think on that, it starts to make sense why the state needs to regulate human behaviour, in all of our interests.
