The Optimum Diet for Feeling Fantastic

People who eat a whole food, plant-based diet are not only healthier but feel better overall than non-vegans. They feel better mentally, have less depression and anxiety, fewer stress problems, and even better interpersonal relationships. They tend to enjoy life more and have a better social life than before becoming vegans.
Key reasons for this are in the diet itself. Fruits and vegetables contain high levels of vitamin C, an important co-factor in the production of dopamine, the neurotransmitter that underlies motivation and promotes engagement by adding attraction or zest to life. Antioxidants in plants such as vitamins E and C, and serum carotenoids reduce bodily inflammation, which is thought to protect against depression.
This talk explores these and other reasons why a whole food, plant-based diet is not only healthy, but also the optimum diet for feeling fantastic.
Jerome Kellner is an author and speaker who has served as the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii’s Maui coordinator since 2014. He is certified in Plant-based Nutrition from Cornell University and certified by the American Council on Exercise as a personal trainer and a behavior change specialist. He is the author of "The Maui Diet" and "The Maui Diet Daily Action PlayBook." His newest book is "Feel Ferociously Fantastic: Creating a Life of Magnificent Health," which recommends adoption of a whole food, plant-based diet as an essential ingredient of an optimally healthy lifestyle.

Great presentation. Simple, straight forward and using common sense (so uncommon nowadays): I love when he says: if you are famished or you have low blood sugar, eat an apple, don't eat snack foods. Yes! I see so many people that doesn't snack on a piece of fruit because it's sugar and then they have some processed snack food instead.

Probably better to chew your food rather than rely on blenders.

If cooking oats, can try pouring it over greens. It is probably better to eat some vegetables for breakfast. Can also try cooking oats with mushrooms. The least processed form of oats are oat groats. Steel cut oats are also not too processed.

Tryptophan is a protein and it is quite impossible to be protein deficient in an unrefined vegan diet.

    • G.E. Boroush
      G.E. Boroush 12 hari yang lalu +1

Tryptophan is an amino acid. A protein is a string of various amino acids linked together. There are hundreds of thousands of different proteins that the body configures as needed. The body recycles about 80% of its amino acids to re-form into new needed proteins. We only have to replace the remaining 20% or so. The body does not use protein directly when it is eaten (whether plant or animal). The body breaks the protein down into its respective amino acid parts and reforms them into whatever is needed at that time.

Juice is a refined substance and not a whole food. For sweeteners, can probably use dried fruits altho they can stick to teeth so fresh fruits are probably better.

Better to avoid the processed food called tofu bec it has lost almost all or all of its fiber and lost a lot of micronutrients. Better to eat unprocessed soy like edamame, natto and tempeh. Lots of factory made tofu has 0 fiber and contains refined substance called isolated soy protein so it is not even real food. Refined substances like protein powder and seitan are not real food.

There are traditional diets that had more nuts and coconuts. It is possible to do unrefined vegan diet with b12 and get most calories from nuts, seeds, coconuts, avocado, durian. It is better for the environment to get most of your calories from cheap staple foods like tubers (potato, sweet potato) and or whole grains.

keto diet is an experimental diet so probably too early to recommend it to everyone. Vegan diet with vitamin b12 supplement has been around since the 1950s and seems safe, so far. The main use of the keto diet is still for some cases of epilepsy and we do know the adverse side effects of the keto diet from its use on kids with epilepsy and anybody can read the wikipedia article on ketogenic diet.
