I gotta say... These kind of discussions are far more interesting than the constant barrage of staged and scripted jokes. I like them too (I mean I have watched these blokes since season 1 of neo-top gear), but sometimes it is nice to get actual car talk and reflection in a car show. This was more a thing in the early seasons of top gear and was reduced more and more as time went on. Season 24 was horrible.

That episode felt way more extreme than most of the previous ones, with the crash and the fire and the utter destruction. And watching the crash, it certainly did look much more serious than it actually was. Seeing his head jerk towards the window with no airbag curtains, and seeing his dazed expression when he exited the car, I was so sure he had a concussion and I teared up a bit. I was in a crash while I had my head resting against the window of a chevy spark before my side was rammed by an SUV with a nudge bar. I think I would have either had serious eye injuries with glass in my eyes, or suffered severe head/brain trauma had I not decided to lay my seat back and lie down 10 seconds before we got hit. I remember looking down at the shards of glass all over my lap and chest and just dissasociating, thinking I was in a dream the first few seconds after the crash. It is just such a scary experience.
However, my bf and I both loved the episode, my boyfriend even more so because he's northern Swedish and was very excited to see them visit. We can't wait for the next!

@Creamcups In the one accident I've been in - a passenger in a car sliding sideways towards a cliff face - I remember in the moments I saw that cliff coming towards my side of the car going "I'm tense. Managed to avoid whiplash, so something must have worked...

Jezza should have got an RS Cosworth Ford Escort circa 1995. That was a proper Rally Homologation special. James. Please reshell it it deserves another 50000 km of life. I’m sure the Cog can do it and then get mods done to make make that STI look like it’s about as fast as a Morris Miner. Any rally driver would rebuild and have it ready for round 2 Change the number plate to STIETA. Us evo rally drivers understand that you crash but come back harder and stronger. Keep Jessa in the boot as much as possible. Can’t wait for the part two the Finnish Flick

@Honor Rolls Well, the EVO is an old car(2003~2004), so is Hammond’s WRX STI, back then side airbags wasn’t mandated every where, for example, Civic and Corolla back then doesn’t have them as well, and my 03’ Camry has side bags only because it’s a highest spec of V6 models, we really do come a long way in safety, that’s true even for Swedish and German cars

Also, I recently found out that a couple owners after I sold my Evo crashed it and totaled it in 2008 so the idea that an Evo gets wounded kinda hit home. From my experience of breaking 3 ribs (I’m a rugby player), it’s such a weird experience. It’s almost like you can’t really feel that it’s broken.. maybe it was the pain meds, but you only really feel them if they touch something. I didn’t have any trouble breathing or anything.
But as I said I was on really strong pain killers back then and it was years ago so maybe I’m just not remembering the pain.

We should definitely get more of these videos after specials. It's nice to see them outside of the rules of film making and just shoot the shit. And I love the running gag of Clarkson screaming in the boot but let's be honest, they didn't actually put him in there. One of the screams was from the Columbian special where Hammond crashed into the Jeep.

@corey douglas yes many say america when refering to the states but when i hear america i think of a continent not a country. If you really want to irk people then when the say something like.."what does that sign say?" You can tell them it doesn't say a thing, you have to read it. if it did say something you would hear it (should be what does that sign read?) Not say

    • corey douglas
corey douglas 2 bulan yang lalu +2

@nie wissen wow I’ve never really thought about that. I see or hear of America I instantly think of the United States, but your right America is a continent, there’s north and South America. I’m honestly sitting here in disbelief that i a 24 year old hadn’t realised or noticed this earlier. Like I’ve always known theres north and south but it hadn’t entered my mind at all when i think of America. I’m sure theres lots of others like me that instantly think USA ehen they hear or think of America instead of thinking about the continent as a whole or having Canada, Mexico, brazil or brasil? Not sure of spelling as its 1:30am and I’ve had a bit to drink, All those countries are American.
Thank you for being one to make me realise this and make me realise and learn sometimes that I should’ve actually known because I’ve understood the north and south but never really thought about it.
I can’t wait now for the next person to talk about America to me so i can say yeah but which American country just to watch them lose their minds then i can hit them with some facts

As a person that owned both cars and used them as a daily driver for many years I have to say the Evo was more fun for me to drive the way it griped the road and the sound of the turbo as you stepped on the gas was just more exciting it was like a dog pulling on it's leash constantly tempting you to push the boundaries.
The Subaru is more tame by comparison it has luxuries like cruise control the seats are more comfortable the cluch you can release more easily the gears are not so wide apart it is an excellent car but it lacks the magic of the Evo.
When in an Evo you have to launch the car off every stop the stiff cluch didn't allow for a vary smooth transition you could do it but it was easier and more fun to launch it.
If you are looking for a driving experience and can live with a little discomfort than buy an Evo if you are looking for a good comfortable daily driver you can take on long road trips without feeling like your foot is about to fall off get a Subaru.

It was not intentionally bro, promise. Studded winter tyres on dry concrete is almost like running summer tires on ice. However I completely agree with you mate. Seaman was awesome and so different. James is the voice of the non-modder community with the classic argument that manufacturers know more than Joe Bloggs in his garage. But of course that's a flawed argument. As Hammond says, Subaru know how to make a performance car that can be driven every day on the road, and they do it for the optimum price point. It's a triangle with performance, reliability and price as the three points. Subaru make a car that sits in the middle of that triangle but you, as an owner, might decide to push it more towards a performance focus and sacrifice some of the price and reliability elements. Of course Subaru could make a screaming monster Impreza but it would be expensive and unsuitable as a daily driver which is the market they are aiming for in the first place.

  • Will Jones
    Will Jones Bulan Yang lalu

That EVO could be awesome with period HKS parts, V-Cam system and all, I think the quality aftermarket parts groups for these cars is what really makes them special. A good body shop can fix that EVO, it would take some time and money, but it can be done, more expensive newer cars that are insured with worse damage get fixed all the time, go to any big city high-end body-shop and there will be a few trashed AMG's and Porsche's on the hydraulic rack being straightened, pretty impressive to see, I've worked in automotive and fabrication and have talked to many technicians and craftspeople, these type of body guys are near the top, many of them can do other jobs at a high level too (paint, and mechanical), highly skilled and knowledgeable.

@Chase Marshall if you have a very unrealistic idea but you want to do it cool but still on a budget, the easy way out is to make it clear that it is scripted, it's kind of a 4th wall break, hey audience we had a crazy idea and we will do an absolutely unreal thing, we are doing it for shits and giggles so let's all act as if it's true, many of this shit happened on the scandi flick special, like the fire spitting exhaust from jeremy's car, it might had some fire but it was clearly enhanced by editing, most likely what happened is that jeremy said something like, "wouldn't it be cool if i had a flame thrower for an exhaust?", so they did it, it is scripted, but it is a genuine idea that he likely had or liked, therefore a genuine idea that had to be done in a scripted way, i hope you understand what i meant.

ZACK 2 bulan yang lalu +1

@Chase Marshall i watch every episode dude, when you are a genuine follower of these 3 you know what is scripted and what is not, and it's not like they act as if it's real, they clearly act like "here is a totally not scripted stunt", only naive people cringe at these scripted parts, cuz they are purposefully made clearly scripted, otherwise the rest is just genuine blokes going,at,each other and cool cars.
