About "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power"
Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth's history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.
Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. We all already know how this ends up. Luckily we have our immortal, perfect trilogy from Peter Jackson to always go back to. Everyone will forget this show even existed in a year, but Peter's LotR is forever.

He deacribed a dark elf as swart, which in the queens english of the early to mid 20th century, means ruffian, or malignant, poorly behaved. NOT swarthy. And he is the only elf to be described as anything other than fair and beautiful

@Belerez Tolkien spent a great deal of time world building. So much of his work was to try and create a cohesive and reasonable universe where a whole range of different of different fantastical stories could be told, with as little discontinuity as reasonably possible. I think its safe to say the current teaser has enough differences to what was suggested in the silmarillion, for reasonable concern.

I think that we should do with this show what Elrond said to do with the One Ring "Cast it into the fire"
I know that this looks like it will be bad but we, as a fellowship, will go through the dark times. Yes we won't like this but there is other forces in the world beyond the will of evil and what we must do with the time that was given to us is to not watch this and move on.

I really, REALLY hope we get to see the downfall of Númenor. And I **REALLY**, REAAALLLY hope that whoever is directing and writing this is A) actually talented and B) actually appreciative and passionate about Tolkien's work and his legandarium. Fingers crossed...
Oh, and a great soundtrack is vital as well. Howard Shore's compositions for the film trilogy are practically perfect. The music in this trailer sounds incredibly generic, so let's hope that the actual series has decent music, preferably with motifs for each kingdom/area (or for specific major characters).

If this is written by people actually interested in writing amazing stories and people that love the original books it has potential. More likely it's shaped and prodded and contorted so many times by marketing execs and soulless producers that it'll be artificial garbage.
After seeing the pictures of the production etc., I came to the conclusion that this show needs to have the same fate as the One Ring. So in the immortal words of Elrond in Mount Doom: DESTROY IT!
It makes me happy to see that the world still has good in it, that the honest folk aren't scared to call a spade a spade, and reject this atrocity

If you want an inclusive fantasy show, by all means, go for it, but stand on your own two feet.
It's going to have to be all about good character arcs, with intrigues and resolutions that emerge ORGANICALLY- because everyone knows how it ends. No D&D GoT bs about subverting expectations.
