This song is emotionally illustrating a toxic and abusive relationship. Her lover, played by the actor by the name of Hong Kyung, is manipulative and abusive towards Taeyeon. Though seen through their relationship that she is clearly hurting, they "act" like nothing is happening (literally act as star characters in a play of some sort) so the world doesn't know what is truly happening behind their relationship. Taeyeon simply "can't help herself" and is stuck in love despite all of the pain she has gone through. The ending shows her final breakdown, as herself and not as her acting role, but alas her lover made it look like it was apart of the act and their relationship shall never be known to the world.
my interpretation was that they are both toxic to each other, not he is more toxic than she is. let me explain: the song is "Can't control myself", so the interpretation I came up with was that she fell in love with it during filming, because they were close, it's just that they needed to stay professional for the play to work and maybe he wasn't so interested in her. But she started "chasing" him and he started getting abusive to him, throwing things at them, but she can't stop liking him even though he's so aggressive with her. The beautiful scenes of the two and she's all happy because she really thinks they are/will be like this in the future, but they won't. Like, she's tired of the situation of liking him so much and him being abusive to her, but she can't stop liking him, which is why she looks so bad and drained. In the end she smiles because she accepts that it will continue to be that way.
@Irene Gallego She had to act like she's acting but she's not acting but people think she's acting, so she puts up with that facade. Being a k-idol or a celeb isn't easy and fabulous as it turns out. Eventually, the rose-tinted lenses shatters. Whether it's spectators watching or the people they co-ordinate with, it's hard. We all either way, can't tell the difference between real or fake because we're all entertained by entertainers, and entertainers act like they're entertaining. There's rarely space and time and special close people for a real side of them to show. At the end of the day as the video shows, Taeyeon is given that space and time to see how broken she is only by standing infront of a mirror. So she's alone by herself to be truly herself. Love and romance and stardom doesn't give the celebs the luxury to be raw as they want to be without the facade and interpretation that they're acting. And even if they do, spectators might criticise or they might say "wow, their realness is great acting. surely they're born to be entertainers." I really hope our Taeyeon heals from the gaslighting she goes through as an artist in her personal and public life. Praying for her.
I've been watching this MV for many times because of too many interpretations to handle. My interpretation is that girl can't control her feelings towards her lover because of their toxic relationship. She fell in love with him when they're acting together, but the reason she can't control herself towards her lover because she is being abused, and that blood symbolizes her abusive or maybe because she's lost herself, but I don't know whether my interpretation is correct or not. Every woman must know what she does.

this is strong in every meaning she is trying to show. her acting skills are perfect and her voice will always be an icon for me.
This is such a "true story" of idols, actresses and actors or maybe all of us. Nobody knows behind the scene. We just saw them on screen and we thought "oh they must be happy" and such. Not knowing sometimes or maybe they've been broken inside. I'm so in love how she deliver the song and the story.

This was the first song of Taeyeon that I listened to, and it got me to fall in love with her music, she is incredibly talented.
The music video is brilliant, it matches the lyrics perfectly, these types of relationships are really really difficult, it’s mainly because the victim is painted as the bad guy in front of the world, it take a tremendous amount of courage to get out of them. I’m so glad that it’s been talked about and being represented so brilliantly more and more.

OMG. I just realized. This mv might be telling Taeyeon's journey to showbiz industry. It really makes sense. The guy represents the bosses of showbiz industry pushing Taeyeon to become a whole different person one proof is 0:57 by making her wear revealing clothes shes not comfortable with. But deep down she is lonely and suffering emotionally amidst the limelight as shown in 1:06. She is starting to lose herself and has no choice but to follow the big bosses as shown in 1:30. She became even exhausted and depressed even during her personal time like birthdays she cant even enjoy and the big bosses still control her as shown in 2:06. The worst part is that media and netizens are always there to criticize her as shown in 2:30 and she has to face these criticisms all alone while the big bosses who had the bigger blame try to save their selves only while artists suffer big time. People were just clapping and admiring her performance but when it comes to her personal issues people are more engaged and excited as shown in 2:59. And she has to suffer all these alone. At the end she cant end her own career and just brush her issues off and accepts everything with a lonely smile at the end and the torment of being in the showbiz industry goes on and on.
