    Trust me ur parents can get you a promotion I worked at pinch a penny where I was laid off an the guy worked the cashier his parents basically gave him everything and there daughter everything yet i did the hard work busted my ass and i was still yelled at and ect for busting my ass and trying hard the point is no matter how hard u try these employers will replace u just like that

    What an excellent perspective on life, people and business. I have children from late teens down to four who are addicted to technology and I hadn’t realised the addiction. I have been struggling with an identity for a new business but it has been under my nose all this time, empathy and the endless game. Thank you most sincerely.

    A few interesting points but it’s clear he’s never actually led a company before. Empathy has its place, but a company that puts shareholders after employees is an un-funded company.

So learn those skills .. smh# Bobby and Tracy stop sleeping with the married man .then try to go to HR that's a wash also ..just trashy and no one cares !!! So frustrating they make the same mistakes every day then say they shouldn't have to check behind folks. Then wtf r u the management ..when I asked at a meeting r there checks and balances in place to catch these mistakes it was like I talked about their mom .     I have a doubt , Steve Jobs one of the greatest leaders of all time and he brought Apple to a great level, but what I have heard about him and read about him is he never practiced empathy. Can you please explain this?

    Everything Simon is saying is so true and it has just made me think, I left School at 16 in 1980 Margret Thatcher was in her 2nd or 3rd year the miners were on strike and as a prime minister when she came to power the country was up shit creek without a paddle so Jobs were being cut across the board unemployment at one point hit 4 million + and because of this wages were shit if you could get a job as I came from a family that believed in hard work and reward i took a job that my hourly rate was 37 pence an hour or £12.50 for 60 hours I stuck it for 6 months and then Id had enough I chucked the job in and decided from that point forward I was never going to have Job security and so I would never work for anyone ever again and if anyone was going to make money from the sweat off of my back it would be me and no-one else, after all no-one could give me a guarantee for a future working for them which meant no mortgage or owning my own property and so I have gone through Life never having constant work when the stock markets crash the building trade is always the first to be seriously hit and it has happened countless times in my lifetime to the point I feel totally alienated to the concept of work hard it it will pay because I have and it hasn't? The only advice I can think of for anyone is there is no such thing as a free lunch and if you want to be successful in the working world you need to be sharp, Never undersell yourself, always work under contract and know your trade but also you need to learn people skills, people don't always say what they mean and it is a dog eat dog society that came out of the Thatcher years so yes you need to be ruthless but you also need Empathy it is after all one of the qualities that helps us understand each other and helps you with emotions such as compassion as Simon said nobody wants to say they got it wrong in fear of being fired? This is how the world got to where it is today, Time for change!

    I applied most of your skills In my Leadership & Management Course. The results’ve proven it worked. The world needs more leaders like you Simon and I am very confident to say I am a good leader as most of my employees stay in my organization for more than 10 years . My door is always open for them to walk in anytime whenever they need to talk to me. They had their pay rise every year even during the economy crisis except the directors ( I am one of the directors- Sale Director) We sacrificed ourselves just to keep those employees around and let them feel safe and have peace of mind to come to work without worrying losing their jobs . Their performance were greater because they gravitated with gratitude of appreciation . I truly believe that any of my employees would be a great leader in other organizations through our inspirations in future. And I would say I am living a fulfilling life as I am able to inspire others in their lives. Millions thanks to your insightful speeches Simon .

    The millennial caricature is hilarious.
    "They all got participation trophies and straight As cause their parents complained". I don't even think that most millenials had that experience. Ironically, this is the stuff older folks see on social media and take as fact. The very thing that many of them are pointing to as the source of millenial corruption, social media, is giving THEM bad information.
    Also I would say GABA has more of a numbing effect than Dopamine. Dopamine is more arousing.

    In my country Millenials are people who constantly heard: "Work hard and you will be rewarded". And as we grown up we saw that it isn't true.
    Boss's son will become your boss and you will be just ordinary employee. You always receive all the dirt from customers, all negative comments from your boss. Businessman even piles all his risk on you and makes you to pay company losses. And they will always be those who gets all the profit despite what they did and what you did. Despite what education do you have and what education do they have. You may do nothing and you may work hard - the salary will be the same.
    If your family have money and contacts - you will succeed. If not - you will receive only those jobs which nobody wants, which closer to the customer. And you are between customers and boss like between the hammer and the thread.
    What will happen if you boss displeased with you? He will fine you. What will happen if customer displeased for you if customer knows how to complain to Roszdravnadzor? Roszdravnadzor will fine your company because no one obeys the laws. Than your boss will fine you. Are you right or wrong? It doesn't matter for anybody. The customer is always right and the boss is always right. And only you, nothing, always wrong when they just have bad mood. And our customers often have bad mood because their work is the same like our.
    Haha, you may complain too. One time. You company will be fined or will give a bribe or if they had connections in Government, than you will be wrong.But it doesn't matter because than you will die because nobody will hire you.
    And we have no real worker unions at all.
    In our country Quality Management System was created like all over the world. In other countries it serves for better work quality. In our country it serves as a pretext to take part of the salary in the form of a fine from those who really work to those who only checks. At the same time, the quality of work does not improve, because the conditions for proper work have not been created - no one wants to invest in his company.
    Not to mention the fact that no one obeys the laws and you are all the time in fear also because of it. It is such a tricky situation. You are breaking law for money. But you don't receive the money, your company receive it. If you will be caught, you will be punished. If not, you will be fired.
    Everyone is asking why Russians don't smile. Isn't it obvious?

    We live in a Dog Eat Dog world and Community Spirit is sadly lacking and our ability to deal with conflict in our Family, Friends, relationships, work places which leads to Psychological and Mental health issues. Internet and Mobile phones have replaced Face to Face communication with our fellow neighbour.

    I think part of this is liberalism, honestly. My parents didn't want to ever make me feel bad for failing or for not winning, but that also means they never truly invested in my sports games or my competitions so it never felt like it mattered to them if I won or if I lost. They didn't really support me in making myself good enough to win, so eventually I gave up trying. They wanted everything to be about "just have fun" and collaboration and other soft skills, but when I wanted to do better or win they didn't get it. That teaches your kid that no one cares if you win, and maybe you'll never be good enough to win so let it go.

    Heck, this just happened! I applied to Ph.D programs and my father was convinced I'd get in, because I wanted to and worked hard. That's fine and all, but my current college was completely unsupportive, my CV sucked and none of the people at my school I asked for help actually provided me with any, and I had shitty letters of recommendation for other reasons, so I didn't get in. Not shocking. Totally predictable. But my dad was totally surprised. And I was surprised, because he'd equipped me for failure but told me to expect success.

    Whether it's something internal to me, or something about how others around me are interacting with me, I need to know when I'm doing well and when I'm not. Trying to figure out how to be sure of that for myself has taken a lot of years to do.

    There was a girl in my work place, we worked together for more than 40 hours a week. I said hello to her about 5 different times at work and she just looked at me with a blank face and walked off.
    After about two weeks she added me on Facebook which I ignored and she on the other hand still ignored me at work 🤔
    Im still puzzled!!!

    He said it better than alot of psychologists or leaders. I've had 4 managers in my career. And it showed clearly how good and bad managers can affect my job. I had 2 good and 2 bad managers. Obviously the 2 good ones took the time to understand how i am coping with my job and they almost NEVER scold / threaten that i should do my job better. They were always there and acts like a defense for us against the higher management. We didn't had to worry and just do our job. They would fill the gaps by farewell dinners and little coffee and drinks or even transportation costs out of their own pocket! Not that we needed that but it shows so much! We were willing to work overtime for free. On contrasts the other 2 bad managers... are much more interested in making sure we don't even step out of line in our jobs. Reports to them constantly, micromanage and talks to us about nothing but work. Worst is they doesn't practise what they preach; telling us one way to speak to customers and act the other way themselves. Easy to guess, the jobs with the bad managers saw a high turn over and i left quicker than the ones with good managers. Sometimes, at work, good managers are everything.

    Simon, I teared up a bit during your video. After 10 years with a company where I continued to increase leads and expand our marketing efforts and our social networks (out performing all our competitors), my two work from home days were taken away by the new president/my new boss. I had worked from home for 5 years and had just come back after having my third and last child. They said I couldn't work from home on Tuesdays and Thursdays anymore. An HR director who has never had children and a 70 year old male told me I was privileged and it wasn't fair to the other employees. Even though I had been given this work from home position from my old boss and it was sanctioned by the former CFO and HR director. I was heartbroken. I left without saying goodbye to anyone. No farewell party, no thank you for your service. Nothing. Even after a year it still hurts, despite my fellow colleagues telling me "if you don't have to come back, then don't." While it is for the best, it still stings. Thank you so much for your work.

    The segment on millenials 8:24 is such an eye opener! and so SPOT ON ! I've been wracking my brains on how to get them to engage in simple communication and idea sharing. I think I have to keep showing up and showing up in their circle so they begin to trust that they can safely collaborate, brain storm ideas from the ridiculous to the sublime, and to not take every request as a life and death urgent matter.     The millennials are soft. Not sure if it's entirely their parents fault. I would sooner blame our Godless culture. And a pervasive sense of purposelessness.

    nonsense a public companies goal is to maximizing profits for shareholders. the leader answers to the board, not the employees. you can see this demonstrated over and over and over and over. If the leader doesn't maximize profits, they are removed.
