  • Arthritis affects one in five adults, and half of those are over 65. Reducing inflammation is the key to reducing pain. We need to learn which foods aggravate inflammatory joint conditions and which foods relieve it.

Did you know that essential fats in foods can reduce joint pain? Plant sources of omega-3s are a safe and cheap way to decrease inflammation. Find out which vitamins and minerals in food help build collagen to support healthy cartilage. Learn which antioxidant plant foods can reduce damage to vulnerable joint cartilage. Which foods support the lubrication of joints? We can easily avoid foods with advanced glycation endproducts, which aggravate inflammation and joint damage. See how we can use spices and herbs to reduce inflammation. Losing weight can help with hip and knee arthritis pain. Losing weight is quick and easy with a plant-based, whole food diet. This presentation is designed to teach how to rebuild healthy cartilage and regain mobility.

Recorded on Tue, May 14, 2013 at the Ala Wai Golf Course Clubhouse. Edited by William Harris, M.D.

Everyone please seek out stem cell therapy. It's proven to be curative and not just to alleviate the symptoms

This is not all correct, and there is information that is clearly controversial that is being preached as the only truth.Check out Dr. John Bergamn, Dr. Mercola, Dr. Cousens, and Dr. Group, his station is the global healing center. This information is lacking hugely, what about fermented food? What about juicing, and sprouting, essential oils, herbs, intermittent fasting, and superfoods? What about removing toxins from our lives, and making our own face creams and toothpastes and household cleaners etc? Not near enough information here to actually cure arthritis or any other disease.

Seek out stem cell therapy. It's working by actually healing the damage to the cartilage. Medicine has moved on

+Riley Lauder If the product comes from America, I wouldn't be so sure. I recently heard that Nabisco is not labeling their products sold in Mexico although its required. Don't know if the rumor is true. If you have
Whole Foods Market in Aussie, !heads up! Monsanto just bought them out. They are making GMO Vaccines too. Peace Out

Thank you for this very informative lecture. Unfortunately, my hip joint is similar looking to the lower ex ray. The pain is debilitating, I feel I am in semi life. Seems that replacement is my only option. I will try the supplements suggested......

I don't understand how any vegetarian can even think of calling fish something acceptable to eat. It is an animal just like any other animal it has a face and a mother and father. It is not a plant if any way shape form or fashion. Therefore should not be considered in any fashion as a vegetarian diet. I would like to encourage from Dr. Blake and others their research on Muscadine Grapes and their seeds, skins and juice. Natures Perl and Rain Simple product of the 4 simple seeds that are it's ingredients. All about reducing inflammation with the Rain product and supporting the immune system with over 100 antioxidants helping with the turning the bodies engine for producing collagen, and possibly many other benefits. my email is abbott.lyall@gmail.com

Since these replies I read that the levels of arachidonic acid in these particular fish sources are extremely low. It would be useful to have a review of this topic. Are the no conditions under which sardines are recommended...

Example of a whole approach to arthritis would be to copy a traditional healthy lifestyle like the 1949 okinawa lifestyle, instead of focusing on particular micronutrients like vitamin E in sweet potato. The 1949 okinawa diet did include a little bit of animal products (less than 5%) altho they did eat more animal products about 2x per month or once per month, so it is more similar to pritikin diet & exercise. Dr Steve Blake does promote vegan diet+exercise so it is not just about supplements.

Met Steve Blake and Catherine on Sep 29 2013 at the San Francisco vegetarian event. I hope Dr Bill Harris will visit San Francisco events in the future. I bought some nutrition books from the various exhibitors including Vitamins And Minerals Demystified. For omega 3, I have found purslane (spanish verdolaga, chinese ma chi xian) at a nearby hispanic store and hopefully it has some omega 3. For vitamin E, I buy cheap wheat bran and wheat germ. Mahalo.

I've heard that some people like maybe some seniors can have trouble converting ala to epa/dha. There could also be some people who have trouble converting linoleic acid (omega 6) to arachidonic acid. Instead of sardines, can try looking lower on the food chain like krill and algae to avoid ocean pollutants. My local wholesale club also sells krill oil capsules but are more expensive than fish oil capsules.

  • Tobias Brown

Also, I will assume that the goal is not to eliminate arachidonic acid (can we even do that?) but instead to have an optimal level.

  • Tobias Brown

Do algae oil sources of omega-3 contain arachidonic acid?

  • Tobias Brown
Tobias Brown 5 tahun yang lalu

I check that video and saw the chart. My reaction is: Sardine oil is one thing. Whole sardines are a different things. Maybe the data on the oil does not apply to the whole fish.

Thank you very much for this reply commentary. I will certainly re-asses my consumption of whole sardines. I was influenced to consume them by Dr Weil. Certainly, if my further research suggests that arachidonic acid are an issue, I will begin to cast doubt on other statements by Weil.

I usually just search on the internet for organic herbs. Recently, I learned that purslane (source of ala omega 3) in chinese is ma chi xian and dried ma chi xian is sold on the internet. Purslane in India Urdu is kulfa and there are kulfa recipes on the internet. In america, wild purslane was popularized by raw vegans. If fed wild plants, animals also have omega 3 altho I prefer eating lower on the food chain to avoid pollution concentrated in animals. Wild plants fed animals are expensive.

Seafood are not health food anymore bec of increasing pollution caused by humans. Dr Michael Greger also warns of diamines such as cadaverine and putrescine in seafood like sardines. Canned sardines usually come smoked (high temperature cooking) which produces some carcinogens. Seafood can also have natural toxins usually coming from toxic algae and there is even a toxin that can cause amnesia.

Sardines might well be low in heavy metals for the reason cited but sardine oil has the highest content or arachidonic acid, the pro inflammatory fatty acid warned against in this video, of all the foods in the USDA database. See VSH Video "Fine Tuning Your Vegan Diet" at t=55m50s

Canned Pacific sardines come in at the #67 spot out of 7540 foods.

I (the speaker) do not consider sardines a good food source. They are a source of EPA and DHA, but I recommend that we either make EPA and DHA in our bodies from ALA, or use the supplementary algal form.

  • Tobias Brown
Tobias Brown 5 tahun yang lalu

Sardines are cited as having very low levels of metals, or no metals, because they feed directly on algae, which the doctor cited here as a good food source. Are you sure about this one?
