    /* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */
Ok so House Of The Dragon Episode 6 is now here and the brand new episode has a lot to break down in it. Filled with easter eggs, new characters and a lot of things that alter what happens in the books we're here to explain it all. Set before the days of the Maury show we unfortunately can't carry out a DNA test but we all know who the father is of Rhaenyras kids. Harwin Strong has only briefly appeared in the series so far and he was spotted briefly at Aegons second born day as well as in the streets of Kings Landing and now my mans gone from a knight in the streets to a night in the sheets.
Now the book shouldn't be taken as gospel and though I'll talk about what happens in it, it is important to bear in mind that there are lots of second hand accounts that have been compiled by Maesters. They all differ over who took Rhaenyras Maidenhead with some saying that Daemon did it, Criston was the one and Harwin is also mentioned as well.
Harwin was known as Harwin Breakbones, the strongest man in Westeros and also the heir to Harranhaal which we saw in the prologue of episode 1.
It's said Criston rejected her at one point and she ran off into the night which is where she bumped into Harwin who ended up being the one who did the deed. In the source material the pair got it on and this burned Criston who ended up becoming bitter about it. Though he knocked Rhaeynra back he was deeply in love with her and he ended up unleashing this anger at the tournaments at the wedding.

@Deco Lard Unlike many people I like both for different reasons, since they are very different shows. It's really odd that two fantasy shows were released at virtually the exact same time. I think they should have leapfrogged each other filling the year with Fantasy TV. Instead we are forced into comparisons. I just can't believe this is even an issue, I remember back to my teens in the 80's and I would have killed someone just to have the opportunity to debate what was the best Fantasy show on TV. It just shows people around my age are the people making shows. They grew up liking the same books I did.

@Piichuシ Correct, and some say she’s other characters. I want AR to be an original character (new actress) that’s part of The Red Priestess hierarchy. A new witch that we’ve never seen. Mel and the other priestess could appear. GRRM created a story world. The lore must be expanded. I could watch an entire series about Asshai, Summer isles, Valyria etc.

One thing that I loved about this episode is the instant fear Alicent showed as soon as she knew Harwin and his father had been killed. She knows this will bring Rhaenyra’s wrath upon her family as well. I can’t wait to see what they do with future episodes.

I think the changes hurt the story, because there's no "out" for Rhaenyra to believably claim the children are legitimate. In the books Rhaeys has black hair because her mother is a Baratheon. They could at least claim the black hair came from their grandmother.
Also, the time jump and recasts mean the connection the audience had to the characters is diminished. So much has changed that these don't seem like the same Rhaenyra and Alicent at all.

  • Elizabeth N
    Elizabeth N 2 bulan yang lalu +618

Alicent is a true example of how anger, jealousy, rage, bitterness, festers, and controls you, it changes you at your very core.

    • Dee Lee
Dee Lee 2 bulan yang lalu +4

@C that’s false. Rhea was not the chosen heir. She was only forced to marry, just like all of the Royal family was. King Viserys only married Alicent because he was also forced to marry. What do you expect from a show about power? They are the strongest family and are born into power. Alicent handles her power well, Rhea doesn’t

    • C
      C 2 bulan yang lalu +1

@Dee Lee Like Rhaenyra, Alicent was forced into her role by their fathers but both are power hungry enough to be willing to stay in their roles. Rhaenyra could of tried to escape with Criston and Alicent could of tried to escape with or without her children or even before the marriage, but both rather stay and fight each other for power.

    • Dee Lee
Dee Lee 2 bulan yang lalu +3

@C she was kinda forced to do that. It ain’t like she threw herself at him. Big difference. Rhea asked for the role she has and is handling it poorly and Alicent didn’t and is handling it well.

imho they should have spent at LEAST one more episode fleshing out the relationship between Harwin/Rhaenyra and Daemon/Laena. I literally threw my hands into the air with disgust when they both died because I'd *finally* found two characters whose journeys I was actually excited to see play out and of course they die immediately lol. Even Oberyn got a few episodes to shine. Like I really wanted to feel actual sadness and not just frustration. No idea why HotD won't slow the f down, I thought I read somewhere that they've been greenlit for at least three seasons.

Small detail, but it made me happy: a black horse bred to a grey (they call it silver in the episode) absolutely can produce a chestnut colored foal. Chestnut is a recessive color, and while there's a lower likelihood for it to be expressed, there's still a 1 in 4 chance.

I really liked how in this episode it is an nearly instant common rumor (with Alicent especially) that it is obvious that Jace is not the son of Laenor and Rhaenyra, because of Jace’s dark hair. But in GoT S1 it was this amazing secret where no one knew Joffrey was a Lannister even though he had golden hair.

Fully agree… fantastic episode, and I thought that final Laena & Vhagar scene so incredibly moving & powerful. I only wish we’d been able to get to see more of Laena & Harwin, and especially their relationships to Daemon & Rhaenyra (including the Laena/Rhaenyra connection), and how Laena came to bond with Vhagar. Ah well. Le sigh.

That scene between Vhagar and Laena was so emotional. It was like they were having se kind of unspoken dialog where Vhagar was refusing until she really felt Laena's desperation. It was that last look into each other's eyes for me.

@N R Exactly. Also, Aegon said he would not fight the claim, but Alicent to interrupted him and CONVINCE him that he is the "true heir." Also, she would've accepted Rheaneara's marriage proposal.

@May Kabir I think it’s reasonable however he made the “actions” that were detrimental to not only the realm but house Targaryen. Further in the episode when we see Rhae actually offer to Mary their kids that fear was proven wrong or unlikely . It seems as though the hightowers or bringing war into fruition by acting in fear .

@May Kabir well they brought themselves into that position. otto was aware that alicents future kids would be in danger way back when he send her to the king after his wife died. alicent could have avoided all that by accepting the marriage proposal for her daughter. they are basically attempting a coup d'etat and justify their actions by the fear of being caught for planning that coup. also, rhaenyra showed no sign of wanting to kill alicents kids and lords would only back him if he wants to claim the throne. rhaenyra could only forced to kill them, if they force her to and nobody else. actually kind of weird to justify your actions by fearing the consequences of your own actions. like attemting to murder someone and then justifying the murder because the victim might have defended himself

This episode felt too rushed, the time gap of ten years was too big after the slow but steady pace of the previous five episodes.
There should have been an episode bridging the gap showing Rhaenrya and Harwins relationship, and all the children at younger stages.
They seem to have turned Allicent into a Cersei Lanister type character with no development into it, and Rhaenrya has lost all the boldness and spirit that Milly Alcock gave to the character.
Hopefully it doesn't contine in the same way.

You know neither Rhaenyra or Harwin actually admits their act. We see things that imply a relationship but they never outright say it.. they don't even share a passionate kiss goodbye and we certainly didn't see the affair ourselves. They made her and Criston night cannon but Harwin is still based on assumption. Wonder why this was done?

    • ICU1337
      ICU1337 2 bulan yang lalu

@Soofiamaria "She's friends with Laenor and he is her husband so of course she wants him to stay at court as he is her support in all of that. And she quite obviously isn't selfish and uncaring of others, as when they leave the capital she wants Laenor to bring his love interest with him as she knows he cares about him and doesn't want to separate them."
You had me following along until you wrote that. Listen, you can make an argument either way about the agreement and a baby. I dont care either way. What I care about is this assumption that all of this baby stuff falls squarely on Laenor's shoulders. Like everyone is just assuming his the root cause and Rhae serves zero part in not having a legitimate heir.
As to the part I quoted...
Every scene we see her talking to him, its with severe agitation. It could be because he's having fun and she's not and we all know misery loves company, but what we have not seen is a "friendship" between the 2. She wants him to stay at court for the same reason that she *allows* him to bring his sidepiece, she needs warm bodies for her army. She doesnt care about his amor, she cares that its one more sword and it buys his compliancy to her orders.
Comeon... I bet you also think she was being virtuous in proposing that marriage between the 2 children 😑 Everything she does is for self-serving interests.

    • Soofiamaria
      Soofiamaria 2 bulan yang lalu

@ICU1337 that was obviously cause she didn't want help or didn't want to seem weak when going to meet the queen. She even says " I'll give her no such satisfaction" when leanor offers his help. And the doing their duty couldn't more obviously mean that they produce an heir. That literally is what they meant by it, and rhaenyra says that after that's done they dine as they see fit. Meaning first they have to do it together and produce an heir and then they can go have sex and relationships with others. She obviously knew he was gay and that they would never feel romantically about each other, but their duty is to have a child, so that's what they have to do. And it's completely possible they also tried to have a child but couldn't for one reason or other. It could be that Rhae laid with Harwin also at the same time period as she was doing it with Laenor but it just happened to be so that it was harwins that made it to become a child. Who knows, maybe Leanor isn't able to have a child or something. She's friends with Laenor and he is her husband so of course she wants him to stay at court as he is her support in all of that. And she quite obviously isn't selfish and uncaring of others, as when they leave the capital she wants Laenor to bring his love interest with him as she knows he cares about him and doesn't want to separate them.

I am not quite liking how Alicent has so much power over Rhaenerys.. She is the Queen, but isn't that more of a consort role in Westeros? Rhaenerys should have power over her as she is the rightful heir, right? Don't mind me trying to understand royals though, I am an American...On a different note, It doesn't require true valerian blood to ride a dragon... just some blood, if that was so, then Aegon II wouldn't be able to ride a dragon, so Rhaenerys's kids should be able to ride dragons also, thought I heard something that her kids wouldn't be able to ride, if that was the case, the only Westerosi people that could ride would be ones with a Targaryen and a Valaryion parent, and ones with only the same ancestry...

In terms of the thinking that it's unusual that Rhaenyra's children have dragons if their father is Strong, is this really the case? There are many "half" Targs that have dragons without question aren't there? Like Rhaenys? Speaking of Rhaenys it would have been cool if they included her hair being brown, to add another dynamic to Rhaenyra's brown haired children.

Seriously i'm watching the show especially for Daemon and Rhaenyra.
Both characters are just amazing and so interesting to see . And when together, even more!!
Episode 6 was mostly dark and sad. Daemon and Rhaneyra are not happy at all. We can see how lonely they feel.
I love the parallel between Rhaenyra's life and Daemon' life. And i can't wait to see the two of them reunited and committing crimes together.
It's not in Daemon nature to stay calm and doing nothing. He misses his brother and Rhaenyra very much but he stays away from them cause he is afraid of being the old Daemon he used to be. The Daemon who makes chaos and have fun in life. Being happy we can say.
As for Rhaenyra, she is more matured. We can see that she loves her children deeply but she became exactly the thing she didn't want to be; her mother.
Daemon and Rhaenyra complete each other (like it or not they are great together), so i can't wait to see them together again and happy.

This show just keeps getting better each week! I love both the truthfulness to the books and the changes from it. I just think the pacing has been a bit too fast, but I also see how they’ve purposely done this to grab the most attention from the viewers for its first season. I just hope the following seasons don’t drag too much since they’ve covered a ton of the major events already.

      Agreed
I knew they would set a quick pace to get through the setup years for the war
I still think they did a good job and put all the important plot points and character developement from the books in and it does not bother me that much
I just hope when we get to the war they slow it down and let us enjoy the slow moving of the chess pieces across the continent

Targaryen's are not immune to dragon fire or regular fire or else the events at summer hall wouldn't have destroyed most of their house.
Martin has said that what happened with Danny was a miracle of magic, not that Targaryen's or valerian are immune to fire.

Haven't thought much of the previous episodes, but this episode was excellent. Beautifully shot and more akin to GOT in the sense of very engaging mutiple narrative strands wrapping around each other. I thought the other episodes were very basic and 1 dimensional.

Alicent is so much like her father now, to her sons and Viserys. Rhaenyra and Laenor were stupid the past 10 years, especially since Alicent had four children in front of them that all look like their father…

the time jumps are ruining the show,it is being used to justify the speedy feel of the last season of GOT. as well, they didnt have to recast the characters: its hard to become immersed with the character development and story arcs. part of what made GOT so great was the IMMENSE character development. its IMPOSSIBLE to bond with these characters. many are so disjointed with this show, lets be honest: we all want this to be special,to see no faults due to its predecessor.

I don’t know if it’s just me but it seemed like Helena might have something going on with her. Like when she says “something’s are beyond understanding” and Alicent strokes her arm and while looking at her and says “I suppose some things just are”. Like almost implying that she’s beyond her understanding. Then she says something about how “he’ll have to close an eye” after Alicent tells Aemon he’ll have a dragon one day. I think she might have the sight or something

I wish Laena's manner of death in the book was carried over to the series. The show made it more gut-wrenching and I feel like Vhagar being forced to kill her own rider would have a traumatizing effect on her.

I missed the last break down but when the Kings original wounds seemed to be progressing slowly I wondered if they were hinting at some sort of leprosy - there seems to be too much re - ordering of events (from book to screen) for me to entirely follow at the moment but it seems that the most important thing is that his majesties willy falls off last.
I cannot wait for the last episode when, after all the children have been murdered (I have not read F&B so I am guessing), we will just see a scabby torso with Paddy's head trying to desperately pumps one more heir into a rather unimpressed Allicent. Now that's comedy.IMO.

Loved your video. I haven't read "Fire & Blood" yet and I truly appreciate you filling what happened in between the time jumps. The word "peasants" seems weird...I believe they use the terms "smallfolk" or "common people" in GOT.

Deep cut GoT reference in Viserys' stone mason. He called him by name, Eddard. Not only was Arya's father Eddard Stark, but she claimed to be low born and the daughter of a stone mason when she was Tywin's cup bearer at harrenhahl as a captive

anyone else think this episode was really really awful? I was enjoying this season up to this point but everything fell apart in this episode. The recast characters act so different, like Alicent was a well rounded character before and there was old friendship/new conflict tension between her and rhaenera, but in this episode shes become a spiteful, illogical, one dimensional rule abiding hater. The king is still lame as hell, at least he's consistent but Alicent totally has him by the balls now. Rhaenera is meek all of the sudden, this is perhaps the worst part about the episode. Previously she was bold and confident, now she's just a sulking mess and decides to run away? wtf was that? maybe thats trying to adhere to sumn that happened in the books bc her change of pace made no sense to me. Ser Criston just hates Rhaenera now which could make sense that alicent managed to turn him but we didn't really get to see enough of that, it feels forced. And even worse still is Daemon, who I thought was easily the most entertaining character in the show, is settling down using his dragons to do the bidding of some random guy, what?! And as his wife miscarries somehow nobody stops her from running out to her dragon to khs... what?! This show just hit a wall bro wtf
