I know this is just for a video, but still it came off as rude in some ways. I've lived in Korea for almost 2 years. Koreans are very nice, but too many foreigners think they can take advantage of that kindness. Its become an issue as of late with foreigners just begging on the streets. Its how they fund their trip around the world. I get that you want to travel and experience the world but you should do it on your own dime or by your own effort. People intentionally go into things knowing that they don't have the means to survive on their own. This is totally different from somebody who actually needs help and who has fallen into hard times. Also, he didn't even bother to learn basic phrases such as hello. Many people do speak basic English, but you are in THEIR country. You should speak THEIR language or at least attempt to do so. That is the polite thing to do. I don't want to drag him down because he seems like a nice guy and I know this is just for a video. But many people are asking why someone would think it is rude. I just get frustrated that people go to all of these foreign countries expecting handouts from the locals and when they don't receive those handouts they call the locals rude and unkind.

I'll explain why Koreans are upset with this video.
    1. Korean speaking korean and not able to speak english well is not a strange thing. But this guy is laughing and acting like it's all koreans fault if they can't understand what he says.
    2. Begging is a rude thing if you actually have money. Helping has too be done by free will. Not by asking. If he was a real begger, korean would definitely help him. Korean is well known as warm hearted. So I think the purpose of this video ifself was impolite.
    3. These days there are a lot of foreigners here in seoul who act like you. So people are worrying that it can become a thing between some absurd travelers.
Please aware of this. It's a basic manner.

    Talk in Japanese in japan.
    Talk in swedish in sweden.
And Talk in korean in korea.
Don’t complain about people can’t speak your language when you are in foreign countries. Koreans in your video talk in english for you because they are just being kind. But doesn’t mean that is your right.

Um well... I know this is a challenge and all that but I hope you wouldn't make this kind of video again. Because to me, the things that you said in the video and did looks very rude. I know that you would probably want a person who speaks English but you were in Korea. You should've tried to learn how to say do you speak English in Korean. And the way that you said things seemed to me as you were saying that it's a obvious thing that people should know how to speak in English. Well that's a big NO. And the women that you said that was offended was right. That's a normal reaction. Koreans would help you if you were a person who loves Korea but doesn't have money. But that wasn't the case. I just feel disappointed. Oh btw Hojun is such a nice guy😆😆

Do we really have to teach that Koreans speak Korean? Not necessary English?
Plus maybe he really did not mean to be unrespectful, which just shows how narrow minded he is. How would you react if you just met a stranger who wants to stay in your house?

  • ᄋ ᄉᄋ
    ᄋ ᄉᄋ 5 hari yang lalu +8

    First, I'm Korean.
So I can understand why Koreans think this is rude.
There are many white beggar in Korea and they're begging to travel.
The reason why they are begging in Korea especially is
many Korean people are usually kind to foreigner.
They use it and earn 20 dollars in two minutes!
So Koreans can see this rudely.
    But this video is different.
I don't think this is begging. Cuz he explained
his situation that he was doing challenge.
This video is just showing Korean hospitality!
Watching this videos, I never feel anything rude.
I can't speak English well but I just want to tell,
    "Please guys stop disputing..."

Korea: *surprised pikachu face* WhAt tHe FuCk yOu ArE sO rUdE yOu wHitE BeGgAr!
It's a chllenge they've done in mulitple countries to show that there's good people out there and you guys are the only ones acting outrageous about it.
You guys even start being kinda racist about it and that just sad af.
Imagine you see an actual homeless person and he asks you for help, is he also being rude?
So i dunno all these Koreans in the comment section just seem so rude to me and i dont think it's a place i ever wanna go to if people judge everyone like this.

Their everyday is even harder because they do not have any western privileges.
Just think what would happen if a south asian were to ask the same.
Ever heard of the trend of begpacking?
Its like alot of young people from europe that go to poor countries without money and begs from locals, and the locals hate it

Do NOT take advantage of the generosity and hospitality of people just for FUN -- that is begging. Look how it is making a bad reputation of only English-speaking tourists and so potentially preventing those kind Korean people from helping tourists or immigrants who really need a serious help. Think about how this video will influence the way of thinking of other tourists. This kind of contents are totally unthinking in that sense.

    To all angry Korean people,

Honestly, I loved seeing Korea in this video and wished that I could visit some day, but I feel very disappointed after reading comments like yours that I find very rude.
His channel, 'Yes Theory', was born with the purpose to prove that fear should not hold us back, that we should be positive and get out of our comfort zone because there is where best things happen. All their videos are to show that there is still kind people on this world.
And no, they are not just taking advantage. See the rest of their videos and see how they have helped a lot people too.

He didn't make fun at all of Korean not speaking English, just expressing how hard would be to this challenge.
He is polite to everyone and excuses himself at the moment he feels he might be bothering them. It's not in the video, but most probably he asked everyone if it was right to use those recordings.
Maybe was not comfortable for some people but that's what being negative brings. Nothing but anger.
HoJun faced it the opposite way, decided to be kind and helpful and although he had to pay for dinner but he got a really nice friend (who possibly can now go to the US for free and have the time of his life).
    Open your mind.
