- Grian surviving 100 Hours In Minecraft Hardcore I am spending 100 hours in minecraft hardcore and trying to do all the minecraft things and still survive till the end, when do you think I will fail? This is a unique series where we have guests on to help out with difficult tasks

If everyone reaches 100 hours, you all should have a challenge where everyone tries to set traps for each other to kill them (which would be more interesting because pvp is off)

For the record in case nobody else figured it out: the drowned spawn way more often in lush cave biomes. The ravines and deep lakes mean that the water around Grian's base are considered lush caves.
Edit: For people confused, it's not that Lush Caves have boosted chances for Drowned. It is that they massively reduced areas for everything else. Glowberry vines mean that Lush Caves are almost always unable to spawn monsters cause of light levels. These lighted vines can't spawn underwater though, so only the deeper aquatic areas can spawn monsters, which are always gonna be the Drowned.
TLDR: All the caves are auto-spawn-proofed in Lush Caves, so only deep water can spawn hostiles.

I had a world in 1.16 and my coastal base had a surplus of drowned...especially trident guys. I had a whole double chest full before I stopped collecting them

I think it's also because of the changed spawning rules- because mobs can't spawn above light level 0 in 1.18, there is less spawnable space in caves and so there are more chances for drowned to spawn in the rivers
I love how he is disappointed that we don't think he can make it, but at the same time he doesn't believe scar can make it
Meanwhile Scar's audience has faith in him even though we collectively have a heart attack every time he moves
If you get stuck in the nether without a flint and steel, there are some options to escape: you could get a ghast to shoot a fireball into the portal frame to light it
You can trade with piglins to get fire charges to light the portal
You can find a ruined portal with obsidian and fire charges or flint and steel in the chest, so you can complete the portal and get back

You do realise you can get flint naturally in the nether by gravel.
Find a fortress, kill a blaze and wither skeleton, take the coal and blaze powder, kill a ghast, take the gunpowder, make a fire charge. Don't even need a crafting table

Should've gotten yourself some gold boots. They effect your armor rating the least and keep piglins from attacking you
Gold helmet rating the least... Gold boots protect half an armor bar, a gold helmet protects 1. For reference, diamond/netherite boots and helmets both protect 1 and a half armor bars.

it is not unlikely to fall in one of those huge caves, in 1.17 it would have been fine
To be fair, in 1.18 there's not so much lava near the surface

Tip : light up the entire lake (including the deep underwater caves ) , not only will that give a new kind of atmosphere but it will also stop drowns

0:15 Drowned have broken AI when standing in 1-block deep water. It has affected servers too, for Monumenta we had to replace some of our water-themed drowned enemies with regular zombies
Actually when you’re stuck in the Nether, you can take advantage of the wool to lead the fire nearby to the portal and light it up
I’ve gotten in the same situation before and I used haybales for that

Btw, fun fact: with a loyalty trident, you can hit things through cages! that happens because the trident hits the stuff around it as it comes back to you. it also works with buttons, which can be a cool secret base.
The main reason I wasn’t interested in this series was because I thought he’d be alone and just surviving but this is more interesting

If anyone is curious when the next season of hermitcraft might likely start, my guess is Grian’s new series was designed to take exactly the amount of time to release before episode 1 of the next season of hermitcraft. Considering it takes him roughy a week to create a episode for this 100 hours, and each episode has been 10 hours of in game time, we might likely see the start of the hermitcraft season 9 start in about two months, assuming it will take grian 10 weeks to record 100 hours of in game footage at 10 hours per week / episode.
Love the series so far! Glad Joel and Scar are along for the ride too

@Paige Singleton the elytra is up there with fall damage as most likely things to end a hardcore world I think. I lost a few month old hardcore world because I was using my elytra in the nether and was trapped above a lava lake. I also didn't have a totem of undying for some reason despite having several at my base.
@patrick morrey That's so sad! Honestly I play pocket edition so flying with an elytra is seriously difficult. I just walk pretty much everywhere.
Lost my first hardcore world to kinetic energy. It was a humbling moment.

Scar's base being such a deathtrap is just perfect for how prone he is to dying.
Fun fact: spiders are the only mob that can see through glass, which is why the enderman couldn’t see you
@S R I think I read it in one of the OG combat handbooks lol, but it may have been somewhere else
Do you have a source on that first bit? I know hostile mobs can track you through glass if they've already spotted you, but as far as I'm aware, hostile mobs don't agro through glass at all.

there were two easy ways I saw that he could have used to escape the nether: lining up wood planks which would catch on fire, lighting the portal, and using a ghast's fireball to light the portal.
We are gonna need a new series of third life soon. I love this series but third life was magical. Keep it up G!
Can I just say how much I love it that when Grain farms he only breaks the ones completely done growing unlike a lot of other people I watch, detection anyone?
He could still get out if it was a singleplayer:
1. Get gold from the little ores.
2. Piglins can give fire charge. (trade)
3. Place it in the portal and your good!
Or trade to get iron nuggets, craft them into iron ingots, get flint from gravel (that too from bartering) and make a flint and steel!
coal(wither) gunpowder(creeper?) blaze rod(blaze) boom fire charge
Multiple ways actually, get flint from gravel in the nether and get some iron in bastions or trading. Get a ghast to shoot the portal, trading for fire charges, place wood beside the portal and explode a bed, etc.
Plus you can bait the ghast into re lighting it
Or get a gahst to shoot and relight the portal
Well as someone with a hardcore world with 15 months, I think that its gonna be VERY hard, but you can do it!
