  • A presentation by Miyoko Schinner
An exploration of the social and cultural role of food through evolution, and the implications of the over-abundance of food choices on society, culture, and individual health and happiness. Within this context, we discuss how veganism represents the future of food as it presents a powerful opportunity for people to impact their own health, the environment, and the lives of others on this planet.
An entrepreneur for 30+ years in the food world as a bestselling author, chef and creator of delicious, decadent, and healthful plant-based food, Miyoko Schinner’s achievements have included a restaurant and natural food company that distributed products nationwide and supplied cookies and pastries to United Airlines, and five cookbooks, including the best-selling Artisan Vegan Cheese and the just-published The Homemade Vegan Pantry-the Art of Making Your Own Staples. In 2014, she launched an artisan vegan cheese company, Miyoko’s Kitchen, which produces gourmet flavors of handcrafted cheeses made from nuts. She also co-hosts the national cooking show Vegan Mashup.
Don't miss Miyoko's song at the end!

great speech, however u missed one important aspect: overpopulation...its very irresponsible and selfish to have 2 or 3 kids when our planet clearly cant take it! why have so many kids?

I love Miyoko. Her vegan dairy products are threatening to make me fat again, however. Thanks for posting!

What eating in the 21st century means is to be bombarded, from birth, by an avalanche of industry media telling us what to eat.

09:50 animal farming creates 51% of green house gasses, 80% of biomass burning. AND takes 30% of total land mass, 80% of agricultural land. Thanks for the data. Great talk. Keep up the good work

Methane is more "heat trapping" than Carbon Dioxide and it sounds more humorous also.

The human species was probably already a social species before the invention of fire. About half of the tubers in africa can be eaten raw and cooking made more types of tubers and grains available for food. Cooking also increased the calories absorbed from food. Vegan cheese are usually made from refined substances like oil so they should be used in moderation. Real cashews probably have more fiber than vegan cheese made from cashews. Miyoko used to be a cooking instructor for the Mcdougall diet which probably explains why she does not use much oil in cooking. Mcdougall diet does not allow any oil.

Concentrated Animal Feed Operations (CAFO)? Sounds like what we are doing to the human population as well. When she talked about CAFO and showed the slides I thought of my neighborhood of tightly packed houses and apartments with all the fast food nearby. Hmnn. We humans are packed together and packing on the weight as well! Great talk.
