I once showed up to a job fair where mostly all the people that were there were dressed casual. The prospective candidates and the employers. Myself and several others were the only ones dressed business formal. I thought I was overdressed. Long story short I swept the recruiter off their feet and accepted the job offer before negotiating a higher pay . I don't know what these recruiters in this vid are talking about. Anything that deals with any kind of hiring or networking i'm not dressing up in jeans. I'm wearing a damn suit!

I've applied to many positions. It doesn't matter what level a recruiter is. Junior or senior, they all could use a brush up on their skills. I can't count the number of times I've been pursued by a recruiter to interview for a role, and then have it fall through because the hiring manager passed. Often, recruiters who recruit people on linked in for companies lack some skills on finding talented candidates, even after I say, are you sure my resume and portfolio fit with the criteria of this role given my background in X Y and Z? And they say yes? But then I get a notice down the road that the hiring manager wanted to pursue other candidates.

It's unfortunate that these recruiters seem to embrace superficial criteria. Job seekers can't win when one employer judges them for dressing too formally, and the next employer they interview with thinks they're too casual. It's egocentric to expect job seekers to research something as frivolous of the dress code at each employer they interview at. Can't we just agree to focus on the substance of the interview and discuss work attire after a job offer is extended?

The pay part is such a lie. Everyone is not guaranteed the same pay. If a company lists their salary and it's a state ran/owned business then chances are salaries will start out the same but in private businesses and companies ALWAYS know your worth and negotiate a higher rate then what is initially offered. The least they can say is no and then it is up to you to decide if you think that they are paying you what it is that you are worth. Also, some state level and publicly traded companies are required to list all employees salaries so if possible look that up before your interview to get an idea of what they might be able to do as far as pay negotiation goes.

And being a teen is the worst to find a job especially when you look like an inexperience twelve year old. They always ask for experience and I’m like I have none other than babysitting. And of course it’s practically frowned upon by employers if you were just a babysitter. Ughhh...I need a job that isn’t bias. I can’t even work a simple dollar tree because they need 18 year olds who can handle box cutters...why do I have to be 18 to handle box cutters?

No way am I going into any interview "casual" meaning no jeans, leggings, etc. I used to work at a grocery store and though we wore khakis and tshirts (any shirt as long as it was blue), I can tell you my boss never hired anyone who came in wearing jeans or looking far too casual (my office was actually outside of hers)

  • Windmelodie
Windmelodie 7 bulan yang lalu +3

It's interesting to see the part about weaknesses. Here in Germany, I was taught not NOT talk about your weaknesses in a way that makes you look bad. Instead, it was supposed to be a positive trait turned into something negative. For example "sometimes I get too absorbed in my work and don't notice my surroundings" or "I get called a workaholic a lot because I'm too serious about work"
We were taught to never talk about stuff such as being late often, whether we plan on working on it or not!

On the last part of the video, about stalking, I did that way back just a year after graduating. The reason is that most of the company/businesses I applied, never tell/called me that I was not suited for the job or they hired someone who fits their requirements. I can take the harsh truth, I'm okay if they tell me that I don't fit on their requirements, cause I received a few emails and calls from a few I applied, stating that they hired someone else that fit what they want.
