he was fun to watch. the librarian controlled the board and nailed both daily doubles. i was shocked james only bet 1400 on final jeopardy. he knew he was on the ropes, dont knw why he didn't parlay it. why i say that? second place only gets 2k, its not like he will get the 25k added to his total. it was his to take!

He only bet $1399 because he knew that Emma, who was in the lead going into Final Jeopardy, would almost certainly wager enough to have a final score of twice his own plus a dollar should she answer correctly, which is exactly what she did. This meant that if she got it right, she assures herself victory, and there was nothing James could do to stop her. Therefore, he had no choice but to hope she gets the question wrong and lose that $20,201. So what James did instead was to insulate himself from Jay in 3rd place, who had $11,000. By betting $1399, he would have ended the game with no less than $22,001, so even if Jay bet everything and got it right, he would have still been trailing James by a dollar.

He messed up in round 1 when he picked the Daily Double right away and he only won $ 1,000 on it. That was the worst thing to do. Then the game turned around when the other woman got both DD's in round 2 and it kept him from doubling his money and she took over the lead at that point and eventually won. For the first time, James was behind going into Final Jeopardy and there was no way he could win because Emma knew the answer to FJ too and she outbet him and won.

He did the math on that final question, and figured what it would take to just come under if the other players bet it all. That's kind of a class act way to "lose" when you are done playing.

He knew he was going to lose because she knew the answer. If you noti ed she wagered enough that even if james went all in she'd be $1 ahead. The second and third place dont go home with the full amount thats why he bet just enough to stay in second place. A true legend

My considered Opinion! Mark that. My "Opinion":
How Jeopardy gypped the "Constant Champion"
Over their many appearances, the Jeopardy crew pays keen attention to the categories in which the current Champion appears weakest (as they do with
    all the Champions).
Though never truly weak, Holzhauer was, at least, weaker in some categories. A full show worth of questions were then formulated in the 4 catagories in
which he was weakest. As the shows slid by, contestants who appeared most proficient in the Champions weak areas were identified and assigned to appear in the Jeopardy episode calculated to unseat the Champ. These 2 contestants were each masters of 2 of Holzhauers weak areas. Excepting
those 4 areas of expertise, the 2 opponents would not be able to last in a regular game with regular catagories. As we've already seen, the player who unseated Holzhauer has already gone down in flames in a regular game. Engineering of Holzhauers "Expert Competition" and stacking the "category" deck
was not just "bad form", but was outright treachery.
    So, what is your opinion?

I'm starting to think you might be right that Jeopardy made him lose intentionally. How ironic that he picked the DD immediately in round 1. I bet it was rigged so that no matter which square he picked, Jeopardy put the DD right on that square and he picked it.

    • Nathan
      Nathan 10 hari yang lalu

@Brat PAQ You already know that Emma was going to bet enough to beat him if she got it right, so his best chance was to bet just enough to win if she gets it wrong. The low bet was the best strategy, and he is a pro gambler, so it makes complete sense why he bet that amount.

    • Brat PAQ

    • Junito Punto Comm
Junito Punto Comm Bulan Yang lalu +1

Bri I Dude, that proves my point !! 😂 Do you think She bet that amount out of the air ??🤔 She bet just enough to win by the lower margin...$1 !! So THE CHAMP BET WAS FIXED because it serves no purpose. 🤦🏻‍♂️😂 let me explain to you: player A has $6 (the champ)...player B has $10 (the girl). In this case, player A HAVE to bet at least $5 to give himself a change to win by $1. It makes NO SENSE If He bet $2 because player B wins the game just betting $0. In the other hand, player B has 2 options: 1) bet $0 if She doesn’t know the answer 100% or bet no more than $3 so She has the chance to win by at least $1 if She is wrong and player A is wrong as well. Option 2) if player B Knows the answer, She has to bet at least $3 to make sure to win by $1 even if player A double up !! So I hope you understand the math behind the game and why I can tell for sure that He lost on purpose. 🤦🏻‍♂️

My theory is James threw the game on purpose because:
    1. It is an inside joke for him

    3. He is a game theorist, this is all fun and game for him.

Okay. What I still want to know is if He was confident or not in HIS answer to the Final Jeopardy. If His answer to that question is ANYTHING other than, "No, I wasn't confident in my Final Jeopardy wager whatsoever", then there is zero rational reason why He made such a low bet. To be honest, it surprised me that Emma wagered as much as she did...3rd place Guy wasn't gonna win...Yeah I know He technically had a chance, but I'm disregarding that. I can understand James' decision if His gut wasn't 100% on His F.J. answer...Still...He should have at least took a CHANCE! Again, unless He had psychic powers telling Him that She was gonna wager BIG and correctly answer...I dunno man. It's just weird He didn't ante up like He usually did...I enjoyed watching Him. This won't occur again for a very long time! By the way, did You guys see Ken Jenning's latest Tweet""...??? Daaaaaaaaaaaaammmmn, Burrrrrrrrn! >_>

    • George K
      George K Bulan Yang lalu

Actually His bet made perfect sense and was the only way He could possibly win. If Emma got the answer correct He would have lost whether He bet it all or not. The logic being She was going to bet a lot, if not all of what She had, because She knew She had to bet a lot in order to guard against him getting the answer right and her not betting enough.
Now if He bets a small amount and She answers incorrectly He wins regardless of He answers it correctly or incorrectly because by her large bet He finishes in first.
Now factor in the third person, by betting small if Emma answers correctly James is guaranteed 2nd place and wins the $2000 instead of just $1000. So He actually increases his possible winnings and bet the amount that gave himself the best and only shot at being in first place.

Can Emma beat James?....You Boetchha! I know a lot of fans are pissed off about James' loss, when he was soooo close to topping Ken Jenning's record. It's human nature, when we feel passionate about a sports team, presidential candidate, game show contestant, etc. to cry "foul", when they lose. We sometimes insist that the result was "rigged", when it doesn't turn out the way we wanted it to. But we must all approach life (in general).with an open mind, or we're liable to keep disappointing ourselves. Not that some things, like financial markets manipulation, doesn't happen. But not everyone agrees with, or thinks like we do.
