This is more a general q, but anyway: everyone talks about the spookiness of ghosts, but do you ever think about how, if ghosts are real, it might be possible for you to become a ghost someday? The idea of being a half person wandering around for an eternity freaks me out way more than the idea of seeing one.

Unfortunately, that’s how prisoners are treated everywhere. There are millions upon millions of documents describing the inhumane and utterly dehumanizing treatment of inmates throughout history and all around the world. On that, there is NO way that inmate in the hole died of “supernatural causes.” They were screaming all night, more than likely experiencing psychosis and hallucinations of the glowing red eyes, and a guard strangled them to death. There would have been no one else around who had access to them, and no one else would have gotten away with it like that. I find that clear as day.

It's really eerie how the voices in the spirit box sound this aggressive compared to other spirit box sequences. Like, even if you can't decipher what they're saying, you can definitely hear grunts, screams and people talking loudly and fast. It's so fitting for a prison, that's what makes it creepy to me.

That EVP where they ask “what happened to you” after the female voice was trying to talk, then they get a distinctly male voice that says “I died” gave me chills. Few EVP’S ever creep me out but the way it sounded like sad and matter of fact in a totally different voice than the one they were getting right before they asked that question is pretty freaking creepy.

Something I think I remembered from my childhood visit to Alcatraz: The island has self-guided tours using radio signals, so you get different bits of history depending on which part of the prison you're in.
I don't know if those signals are turned off for the night. If they're still on, that could be part of why the spirit box is so 'talkative' on the island.

Alcatraz island has been known to be very important in Native history. It started as a place of gathering or "prison" for those that broke tribal law but as colonizers kept taking over, it became a place of refuge and part of a long history of Native activism on the island. I'm a bit of a history/politics nerd LOL

    • Hazzy Avery
Hazzy Avery Bulan Yang lalu +12

@Sapphic Heart In history, oral traditions are usually not taken as definitive evidence until there's archaeological evidence that proves the oral tradition.
For example, the story of the Illiad and the Trojan War was regarded as just a myth that is, until archaeologists actually found evidence that there was a big war that happened in the Aegaean between the Mycenean Greeks and some Anatolian cultures, corresponding to the end of the Late Bronze Age
Humans are good storytellers, so the memory of this war passed on and became mythologized into the Illiad.
This is the same thing for Alcatraz Island, the indigenous people do have oral tradition that relates to the island but until there's archaeological evidence that definitely proves it, it will just be oral tradition.
I'm not saying that it's not true, it could very well be. I'm just explaining how historians and archaeologists work.

I think to really test out the Rempod, they should place it in a room where they know it's not "haunted" and just record it for 24 hours and see if it will go off at set intervals or if it actually goes off because of "spiritual" interference. Like I thought I was a shithead before but I think I've officially become a Shaniac lmao. I do think the tools are entertaining. Much love to the guys! 😊

    • Erin Slyth
Erin Slyth Bulan Yang lalu +9

I think they’re the most charismatic/sympathetic ghost hunters in terms of relation to audience and lax familiarity with narration.
They’re able to show more wholesome/ simple moments and talk off the top of their head without it being edited or without needing to codeswitch or act like a tv character. Because it’s IDclips and production and monetary gains are different they don’t need to correlate on the same level as television between standard guidelines by executives and code enforcers and what’s actually wanted from the content/genre creators and consumers.
Altho to argue that they’re the best paranormal hunters of all time without providing any metric of how they’re the best is wild, I think they’re entertaining and take more breaks then an average tv show would. Which as someone having attention issues them doing such heavy editing or a joke cut or a flash forward flash back (like there’s 20 edits in 1 minute that’s absurdly short clips that all have sound editing working as the overarching tie in) the switch up or the break from serious to not serious will draw my attention back to the conversation, if suddenly a cast member is laughing after saying ‘Jesus Christ what was that you lil ghoully goblin’ I’ve probably not heard that before or I’ll go back for more context.
Rewatching components the ability to reverse the video and see a clip over and over really changes the dynamic of how you show information. When they can put it in once or twice and I can go back 20 times to look myself in 2 minutes it’s different then having to rewatch a full tv episode when it’s premiering and set a dvr... Ik that sounds dumb but the way content is being edited/produced is vastly different because of repeat accessibility (it also means there’s more fads as something new can become really old or boring if you can repeat it more times then the show can produce that same clip in a unique way)
Because I may not be staring at my phone watching this but I am listening and the breaks in narrative bring back my focus. in tv shows the focus is on the visuals, you have epic shots done footage deep explainations of tools with schematics /animation theres reinactments and even scenes that portray what ghost visually look like from the perspectives of unnamed witnesses and artists renderings. It’s literally some of the most absurd horror cinematic stuff you can watch with high levels of drama and intense punk/alternative vibes.
Like as a 12 year old I saw a ghost show where there was a reinactment of a heroin overdose and the man becoming a ghost and then haunting his family’s home from the perspective of the daughter seeing her dads ghost days after finding his body.
Talk about a mind f-k watching that, it’s literally a short movie with low production that it looks like a Spider-Man skull and lightning transformation montage for 15 minutes with the audio to match. and ridiculous topics that aren’t depicted elsewhere or are so extreme there used as propaganda examples in modern history
I feel like you can’t compare IDclips ghost adventures or shows to tv productions it’s just too steep of a difference in finances, restrictions, and ability to generate and control content/audience, along with just generating finances like ad breaks, tours, signings, and merchendise. Tv actors and ghost hunters don’t participate on the same level as individual content creators because they have producers/executives financing them and deciding what’s done.individual content creators don’t have those finances and even signed with producers it’s a fraction of a Hollywood budget. You need to have the engagement of fans for alternative income or to in the decade for this show take one episode and break it into two episodes one of the exploration one of the breakdown, tv shows it’s all in one go one episode 24 mins max not 1:30:00 video 1 and 30 mins video 2 with the option for going to a website and getting keychains and stuff

I think, if done respectfully, like the way Crime Junkie cites the local pages and numbers to help locate these people, it can be beneficial for everyone.

If you do another international filming can you come to Australia and do Port Arthur? I used to work there and there were a LOT of stories. The Port Arthut Massacre is obvious but a very sensitive topic still, and honestly I think the older history deserves more exploration. Point Puer is an islet that was turned into a boys prison with a "good" side and "bad" side (based on behaviour) with a cathedral and solitary confinement huts in the middle. The Coalmines were exactly that - but also a prison, where men were sent hundreds of feet down tiny holes on a whole new and alien continent. A whole nation of First Peoples (the Pydairrerme people) displaced and killed, with their own long and deep history beforehand including a culture of raiding and kidnapping from a neighbouring nation ( the Mouheneenner people) across the water.

@Vaquix if the bug thing wouldn’t be hugely terrifying to you, then you don’t have a bug phobia. It sounds like you just made the assumption that you have a bug phobia, and have not been officially diagnosed with one by a psychologist. An actual phobia isn’t just being afraid of or grossed out by something, it’s a severe fear that greatly impacts your ability to handle day to day life.

    • ixsicness
      ixsicness 2 bulan yang lalu

@Vaquix the dark is scary because we evolved to be scared of the dark, it is when we are the most vulnerable as we dont have strong night vision and are most susceptible to predators.
It is an innate trait inherent in all humans, because the ones that weren't scared of the dark when we first came down from the trees ended up as another creatures dinner.

    • Vaquix
      Vaquix 2 bulan yang lalu

@ixsicness dark is only scary because you don't know if something is there. If you know nothing is around, darkness isn't scary by itself. Yes there could be drug addicts in an abandoned building, but not Alcatraz so rule that out. Then you're just left with the bug concern. Not hugely terrifying to me and I've got a bug phobia, I'd just watch for spiderwebs or anything gross that may fly at me. Apparently there's going to be an episode with a bat flying around, I wouldn't particularly enjoy a bat flying at me. These are three very different types of fear though - a drug addict maybe stabbing you is a survival fear. A bug or bat getting on you is a gross out fear. But unknown mysterious entities... The unknown Far outweighs those two. The creepy thing is I don't think it's as simple as the dead staying there, or a cartoonish Bible demon. There's stuff much weirder at work, and if you get deep in enough you see some very crazy things.

    • sethescope
      sethescope 2 bulan yang lalu

@Vaquix just because someone might not think ghosts or demons or whatever are a possible danger doesn't mean other dangers might not exist. they've visited several places in the past that had condemned portions or were otherwise not maintained very well, such as many of the former hospitals, and it's possible that there could be wild animals or something. additionally, there's always a chance of injury in dilapidated buildings from something falling or sharp objects like shattered glass or old nails on the ground. but we see Shane very casually and lightheartedly exploring gross buildings that are falling apart, seemingly without a care in the world, whereas reasonable people would express concern and a level of caution, regardless of their belief in the paranormal

The spray paint at 1:51 hits hard. I don't think many people know this but for a brief period of time in the 1970s Native American people occupied Alcatraz. Under the US Treaty of Fort Laramie "all retired, abandoned, or out-of-use federal land was to be returned to the Indians who once occupied it" So Native activist Richard Oaks and others claimed the land back for their people. Their proclamation for claiming the land stated the following:
"We feel that this so-called Alcatraz Island is more than suitable as an Indian Reservation, as determined by the white man's own standards. By this we mean that this place resembles most Indian reservations, in that:
    1. It is isolated from modern facilities, and without adequate means of transportation.
    2. It has no fresh running water.
    3. The sanitation facilities are inadequate.
    4. There are no oil or mineral rights.
    5. There is no industry and so unemployment is very great.
    6. There are no health care facilities.
    7. The soil is rocky and non-productive and the land does not support game.
    8. There are no educational facilities.
    9. The population has always been held as prisoners and kept dependent upon others."

It's 100% because Ryan thinks they legitimately exist Shane has zero belief in them so it's a younger in cheek thing

Shane and Ryan are both my personalities personified and I live for them

Gotta say I love these episodes guys! IDclips decided I didn't and unsubscribed me a while back and I was missing them so I'm going through them all. It's therapeutic watching you guys go on adventures like this, so thank you.

I honestly love this ghost show it’s the best, I can’t get into any other one I watch now it’s just not the same without Ryan and Shane lol

It's weird to see shane acting more like he believes than in the last ones is great and not so great at the same time, I love that he acts more like he is trying to believe or least gives Ryan the benefit of the doubt.

This is the only ghost hunting show I've ever come across where the sceptic actually is a sceptic. It's revolutionary.

@Johan Vajse he’s good but not on his own. Think they gel together or do you fast forward when Ryan is on😂😂

_Bergara_ would be considered a hardcore skeptic in those shows.

I enjoyed your show at your former jobs, so I was excited to see what you'd bring with Watcher. Congratulations!! I'd like for you two to really dig deep and visit investigate stories, places, events, etc. that are not well know, touristy attractions. Plenty of visitors have been to the off hours, night, Halloween tours at Alcatraz. I think the pure belief from Ryan and unwavering skepticism from Shane works well. One constructive note, don't become too clownish. Part of the initial success you both had was steeped in facts about the situation/place/event/time, etc.

I’d love to see Ryan wear the headphones and Shane ask the questions. Keep up the good work guys!

"Shane and I will each be forced to explore the entire prison one at a time… because I hate myself."
At least Ryan’s honest with himself
