So if she didn’t understand what she was signing up for, why continue? There’s plenty of other great private institutions for less tuition, with plenty of assistance when you look in the right places and talk to the right people. I find this video to be very misleading to those thinking of going to college and/or already in college. I went to an out of state four-year university, and I’m paying less than that. I suggest that she seeks an financial advisor QUICK! She must’ve done something very wrong, or there’s more to her story she’s not saying in the video. Aside from that, I really wish all the best for her,and to anyone who is in similar situation as her.

I used to work for a bank and made $36,000/year without a degree. Im going back to get my computer engineering degree and estimate my student loans to be at $35,000. Currently in my senior year. Its been hard to not have a car, live with my parents, not eat at restaurants or travel during the breaks. Since i worked for a bank i know what banks can do so i advice the younger generation to be wise. Dont borrow too much and make sacrifices.

Like Bernie Mac said to Jamie Foxx in the movie Players Club welcome to the stripping game part partna! Student loans as well as child support are both just entrapments into legalized slavery in the name of education and in the name of providing for the child! Slavery is no longer picking cotton, it's legitimate terms like education and child care, if you want your loans paid off go have a baby with a working responsible man and put him on child support, I don't think that this is right but the court system doesn't care and the banks don't care about what you did to pay your loans, the system is slavery one way or the other, the only way to win is to not get involved from the jump.

at 1:24 she needs to pay more than $707. she is only paying 64.54 towards the principal. Her principal is 118K. Even as interest begin to take a smaller chunk of the payment. paying $707 it would take 35 years to pay off. paying $900/Month would take her almost 20 years.

Unless you have a professional requirement for a degree such as law or medicine, outside of that I would say a degree is essentially pointless, especially in the age of the internet and youtube where you can basically learn almost everything better, cheaper (if not entirely for free) and quicker online. I would say a degree in drama is particularly pointless. I should imagine the only two things you can do with that are become an actor which is based on talent and ability not on your degree (I assume in no audition is anybody asked for their degree!) or become a drama teacher/professor, which is generally not massively well paid, and again requires an ability to teach and connect with students above what the degree is. I think the best thing she could have done if it were to be a drama teacher, just start doing it through private drama groups etc, and then move into maybe something like a teaching apprenticeship. If its to become an actor I would have said it would have been more effective practicing your craft every day and being in as many things as possible and just audition like crazy. I think a drama degree is effectively pointless.

I think they need to break down the system whem it comes to loans and financial aid in a way that makes sense to students and parents. Something more than, this loan has interest that you have to pay on and this loan doesn't have interest you meed to pay on. Also, the financial aid department in colleges need to make it easier to call the laons so payments can be made right away instead of waiting until it hits collects and you get those harassing calls.

I hate people that say they 'didn't understand what they were signing up for.' Like come on...it's a LOAN, do you not know what a loan is? you get money with the expectation of paying it back and then some for the privilege of getting the money immediately. the problem isn't the loan, it's the ridiculously priced degree you're buying WITH said loan. 100k+ on a English, Dance, etc. degree is like taking out a loan for a lamborghini...fun for a couple years until you realize you overspent and what you have is worth much less than what you paid for.

Every one who says " O, well that wasn't a good major to study" are simply avoiding the issue. No matter what major you study you should not have to take out these predatory exploitative loans in order to get a degree. All fields of study are important and an essential aspect of humanity. I did attend two community colleges but like a dummy I went to colleges that required you to get a student loan. One of the degrees that I got was in computer science which is a broad based field and never found a job in it. In hindsight after attending the community colleges I should have called it a day. I tell anyone do not get a student loan you will pay for that the rest of your life. Moral of the story: A expensive lesson is the worst lesson. Class is dissmissed.

Although I do put some blame on her choice of major, the overall schooling system as a business needs to be reconfigured.
Students can go to the same school majoring in engineering or liberal arts and come out with the same amount of debt. Yes, they should have considered the marketability of their major, but again look at the end result of student debt both come out with.
If I could change anything about the education system, it would be that the price of tuition scales proportionally with the demand of the major.

    • Brock Story
Brock Story 24 hari yang lalu

+School Cartographer no just get the government out of it the free market or competition will solve those other problems we shouldn't force college's to do anything that's what creates problems

    • School Cartographer
School Cartographer 24 hari yang lalu

I agree that there are multiple ways that this can solved, although we won't know for sure which method is the best. Price controls would definitely make one major more favorable which will lead to shortages of the less popular ones.
Another method would be what you mentioned which is to forcefully stop guaranteeing student loans, driving down prices by supply and demand.
Another could be to encourage other options besides college, like trade school, military options, etc... This would drive down prices of college too by supply and demand.
Maybe make college extremely competitive after high school to the point where only truly qualified candidates get accepted and have the average high schoolers only be qualified for associates degree, making associate degrees be the norm instead of bachelors.

    • Brock Story
Brock Story 24 hari yang lalu

So you would do what? Price controls? Which means shortages.... All you have to do is get the government to stop garunteeing students loans and the college will be forced to lower the price

Obama is the guy is said everyone should be able to go to college regardless of their intelligence. So now we have a bunch of uneducated kids signing up for huge debt because Obama told them to do it. College used to be only for the most intelligent kids, but not most colleges are just like zone high schools, they except all of the leftovers that no real university would touch. Example: Evergreen College in Washington has a 99% acceptance rate. This tells me they just want your money. Also, keep in mind that the government doesn't have any money, the working class people are funding all the education. Meanwhile while all these kids are sitting in college, their blue collar jobs are being filled by illegal aliens and they aren't contributing to the economy at all. They aren't even starting families until their 30's now. Obama f*cked up everything. Democrats alone destroy everything they touch.

I see a lot of comments blaming her for making a bad decision in what she majored in. When your 17 years old you don't always have the intelligence to pick the most lucrative major especially with the outrageous marketing some colleges engage in. The government should have never allowed her to go into so much debt for a useless degree or she should at least be able to discharge the debt with bankruptcy. The education system is broken.
