  • ESPN FC’s Gab Marcotti and Julien Laurens (The Gab and Juls show) talk about Cristiano Ronaldo lacking in confidence in the Manchester Derby game. Then discuss Erling Haaland’s impressive hat trick in Manchester City’s 6-3 win over Manchester United. Then Juls states why he doesn’t understand why Erik Ten Hag didn’t have a Erling Haaland game plan ahead of their game against Manchester City.

Without man city, Haaland was one of the best but with man city, Haaland is unstoppable bcz there have De Bruyne, Barnardo silva, Foden, Mahraz, Cancelo, Gundogan & so on amazing Creative playmaker

You can't stop haaland himself, but you can cut off his suppliers. The problem is there are five of them on the pitch at any given moment, and some of them can thread passes like needles even with no space and under pressure.

I think prime maldini, nesta, cafu, roberto carlos and Neuer needed in the backline to stop haaland scoring with this city team.

Ronaldo is not a coward, he would rather lose with the team then hide on the sidelines. We all know his winners mentality and it’s beyond anyone else’s in the game. But weather he came in at 4-0 or not I don’t think it matters considering he didn’t start the game when he should have.

It's pretty simple maths: Haaland is currently scoring at the rate of 1.75 goals per game in the Prem so if he kept up that rate for 38 games he would get 38 x 1.75 goals which is 66.5, beating Dixie Dean's 60. Can't see him doing it but you never know.

    • KarmaKahn
      KarmaKahn Bulan Yang lalu

@Raul Bercea Bayerns genius pressing: conceding 3 at home vs PSG via one long ball over the top.
City's pressing: PSG have their last shot on City's goal in the 28th minute of the first leg.
Don't talk about Bayern's pressing. They press a lot. Not well.
They should probably first focus on not having problems with teams like Villareal (lol) before showing others how to stop Haaland - which they aren't particularly good at considering his 1 goal contribution per game against Bayern while playing for a team that isn't half as good as City

    • Raul Bercea
      Raul Bercea Bulan Yang lalu

@Bex Clue actually they would. Bayern have a bad time against German teams and compact defending teams (like Villarral). They're toying around with anyone else. City ain't an exception. Bayern's pressing is too much for them

Armenia showed that to stop this guy you practically have to injure him. It's a shame cos as the season goes deeper you're going to see defenders get more and more physical with him. It’s basically different situation with Haaland at City, if you watch the game Haaland basically stay only at the centre of the pitch. Where in Norway, he goes down to carry the ball forward.
At City, he doesn’t dribble much, he intelligently timed his run & arrived precisely where the ball is there.
That’s how hard it is to mark him, you either put two CB on him & Foden or Gundo came inside & finishes it or let Haaland runs riot with goals galore.

The thing that makes the most sense is lacking confidence for Ronaldo.
    1. Not even *in* the champions league, which was his stated goal.
    2. Missing gluts of opportunities at United and Portugal
    3. His physical prowess - which was most everything for him - declining. Can’t outrun most defenders anymore, can’t press, isn’t a guaranteed goal scorer anymore.
From being one of the undisputed best in the world to not even making the first eleven - and justified, that he’s not, too - for a United team that is barely in Europe. This is a serious confidence crisis. When has he ever been in such a situation?

No one stops him. He scored at Anfield with Salzburg when LFC were at their best, at Bayern and PSG with Dortmund. He's going to score no matter what you do, or you have to spend so much attention and manpower on him that the rest of his team runs rampant on you instead. You have to outscore City. It's the only way. Keep the ball away from him by attacking/closing down, hit your chances = win. It's just very hard. Madrid and Barca can do it, maybe PSG. Very few others.
