I started reading comics recently and i just read this comic and loved it. I really liked this realistic artstyle and it was nice to learn more about it!
🐽🐽to tell u the truth i never was in to ross's art but ,not because i subcribled this page but i found my self learning all over again.who knew i to draw betterchecking out this page, jim lee, etc!!!!
WBros and DC should stop letting 'directors' dictate how their superhero's should be portrayed and let people like Ross say 'this is Superman...make this movie and everything will be okay!'They need to let the people with passion and incredible knowledge about the material craft the movies instead of a group of accountants and 'yes' men.Chris Nolan knew what made Batman so iconic and interesting and he did it his own way, just like Alex Ross does with the art. Snyder doesn't 'get' the genre and thinks if he shoots in super slow mo it means 'gravitas'......
I LOVE ALL THOSE JUSTICE ACTION FIGURES HE SCULPTED . THEY ARE JUST OUTSTANDING TO LOOK AT 7 INCHES TALL . I HOPE HE CREATES A MARVEL LINE OF FIGURES .. I'M IN LOVE WITH YOUR WORK .I JUST LOOK WITH ASTONISHMENT ..
Alex, your Superman design is by far the best that's ever been done. I wish a standalone Superman movie would come out with an actor who looked like this; portraying a slightly older and more mature Clark/Superman. And one that placed a huge emphasis on his character, not just a movie full of fighting.
No one better than Alex !Those graphics of his are the greatest - You can really see what Superman might look in his middle age ! - Alex nails it every time !Thankyou for sharing!
These videos are great and I’m a big fan of Alex’s work. Personally though in a comic book I’m not a fan of the original costumes tied with the photo realism.
Just bought an autographed print set of superman forever, can't wait to get it. Huge fan, you're an amazing artist.
I'm not a fan of the oversize format. My copy is stored sideways on my shelf... But the book itself is gorgeous.
e nois brasil
Plzzzzz show us your drawing and painting process.........
Mister Ross this is a real masterpiece. I have one here, one of treasures !!
Sulerman peace on earth is the best superman..this one and superman from the animated justice league

Alex Ross is The God of illustration
Sold. Thank you, Alex Ross ❤
I have this comic on my lap as we speak, its great!
I got this comic on my bookshelf
Kingdom Come is so good...
could look at Alex Ross paintings all damn day. ugh they are so stunning.
I missed a chance to see Alex’s artwork at a museum in western Massachusetts a few years back. Bummed still.
Alex ross looks like aged clark kent
We all tip our hat to you sir, The sculptor of comics.....
In profile, this Superman could be Charlie Sheen. "How curious!" he said in a merry voice.
The classic Superman is the real Superman.
Alex the master, I remember reading this in my twenties and thinking fuck this time he will bring balance to the planet.... maybe there were some tears involved, maybe.
The art where superman is lifting the car is exactly portrayed in Batman v Superman when Wally is making a bomb, and you see this shot in Cavil's superman version on the wall newspaper. Epic Snyder!
I have this. My mother, then 70 years old, was sniffy about me at 40 reading such an album... So I passed it to her, and invited her to read it, and to lose herself in the artwork...Hours later, with tears in her eyes and a hitch in her voice, she thanked me for letting her read it. It's a terrific piece of work.
Super make-believe crap ~
0:13 Why did he give Superman breasts, though?? He should not have dad tits.
Master artist luv his work.......stayHI
I got a copy and placed it in a cover!
Excuse me...are you THE Alex Ross? If you are I just found your channel. My wife says that she can't believe that I come with such a complex stories, yet so entertaining and absorbing that she didn't let me stop, even when my baby girl is already asleep, she say I have to start to writing them down (yeah sure..like I have the time). Any how, if is there a reason my brain builds those stories is because the side effect I got from reading your "Kingdom Come" which is my favorite comic book of all times. Thanks for your work...it makes the real world a little bit more enduring..
My favorite Superman story ever-- and my favorite interpretation of the character. Thanks a million for this, Alex.
Yeah... it's called a Dab, Alex Ross. Superman was Dabbing 86 years ago.
Who cares about your fucking gesture? Alex Ross is a genius for not knowing it.
Who the FUCK downvotes Alex Ross? Cretins...
Liberals. They hate everything now.
Why is it that every time I see an art piece of Superman flying, his arms are drawn in a strange outward arm pattern? I assume it's to give a clear view of his face and chest symbol... but it feels weird. It feels like there is a subliminal message now a days...Could artists of the last 10 or so years be drawing Superman in that weird outward arm pattern to suggest the Nazi arm hail? It just feels weird to see that same art display ever time. And if you're flying, it doesn't really make sense to fly that way.
Alex Ross's SUPERMAN'S FACE IS ACTUALLY ALEX ROSS'S FACE...Same nose ,same jaw. Exact eye distance separation GENIUS...And it only took me 20 years to notice.
MI GATO SU GATO never noticed that
He should have killed afflek, not batman but afflek, hit him so hard he can't put on the outfit again lol
Yet those russos cuck at disney keep saying that Superman is unrelatable, fuck them.
Hes a nut bag, but his art is fastanstic.
A nut bag? Why is that?
I still love the traditional painting heated of the Justice League, and how for the movie they made a live-action version of that with the actors. That's why I bought the special edition of the Justice League Blu-ray from Target as it had the Alex Ross inspired cover of the portraits. He is a brilliant comic artist
Very beautiful to c dat ppl can go through such deepness of something dat turns out to b so beautiful n heart healing..peace is beautiful at surface n is mor at its depth..god bless us
One of the best Superman stories I've ever read...
I love how these characters are so realistically made, they're equal to their cartoon counterparts, buff men to play super heroes and normal heroes just like the early cartoons and comics, these are the types of models for super heroes that i wanted to see being cast to play in DC movies. I never see any hero or super from any movie that his or her body type matches with the old cartoons and comics. That's why i love these drawings.
I think the only way you could translate movement to that art style would be motion capture
kenjackben yes!! Motion capture they should do one like xmen
Holy shit man i love your books
my favorite version of Superman
The sad thing is most people don't get what makes Superman special, luckily for us Alex Ross was one of those people that does.
Superman=White Supremacist God Complex But let's ignore the inherent racism of the character.
DRAWN im brown puerto rican not everything is rascism this is superman
Traces photos as his sole means to create form.
Dear Alex Ross ,you have inspired me and countless others all around the world with your art , I have your limited edition assassin creed 3 cover that you hand signed and painted . I have a ton of marvel and Dc work by you. You yourself are a visionary mastercrafter above the minds of men, an ubermench of la art, We love you .Sincerely ~An Artist from earth.
great artist ye are, sir
you know what?WB should look up to this guy works from JUSTICE series and move forward to KC mini series, then probably could make the DCEU's JL a great movie to watch
Although Superman's uniform is outdated, his work is beautiful ...
I still have the Peace on Earth and War on Crime leather cover Double edition. Still read it from time to time. The art is just breathtaking.
Alex Ross artwork makes me understand the heroes much better. You can feel the emotion on the faces.
Superman Peace on Earth is one of my favorite books. My favorite panel is the one where Clark Kent/Superman is sitting in his chair in his Metropolis apartment meditating, almost brooding, over his actions of the previous day. Written wonderfully, drawn beautifully, Peace on Earth to me is the exemplary embodiment of Superman and the standard by which I still hold all Superman movies/comics/etc to.
Bought this the first time I set my eyes on itAbsolutely beautiful
This looks soooooo clean. I like it.
Superman: Peace on Earth is truly a timeless masterpiece. It has some of the best quotes from Superman and Jonathan Kent, and of course Ross's art is indescribable stunning. It truly is a respectful honoring of the character and I feel proud to own my copy of it."I think back to my father. As a farmer, he had a natural understanding for the Earth. I remember him telling me this world is capable of providing for all its creatures. Even now, with so many more people, there exists enough food for everyone. The problem, "Pa used to say, "is people. As far back as we go, we've always had problems with sharing. Seems everyone's too busy holding on to what they've got to care how their neighbors are doing." Pa said it would take a special individual with no personal agenda to make everyone realize what the world has to offer. Someone who could put his own needs aside to help the greater good. I don't pretend to think I am that person, though I have always tried to be there for others. I look upon my powers as a gift, not mine alone but for anyone who needs them. Over the years I've helped as many people as I could. It's not my place to dictate policy for humankind. But perhaps the sight of me fighting hunger on a global scale would inspire others to take action in their own ways. It's certainly an example worth setting."-Superman(Superman: Peace on Earth, 1998)
I also have this copy, I bought it when it came out and am also proud to own it. That scene of Clark sitting in the chair, head down, world weary, white shirt, with the S visible - the opposite of the scene we are used to with him standing proud, head up, ripping the shirt open ready for action. Alex's incredible talent to portray this. Everyone criticises Superman 4 - but the whole point of that film, "quest for peace" - for "peace on earth" - Clark's struggle in trying to decide how much Superman should interfere - this is another personal way we see this. Is Superman the true personality with Clark the disguise, the Son Of Jor-El, bound not to interfere with the unfolding of human history? Or is Clark the real personality, the son of Jonathon Kent, who grew up in Kansas, "about as American as you can get", and Superman just a costume? Dean Cain: "Clark is who I am. Superman is what I can do" . Henry Cavill: "Superman was never real". In Kingdom Come Diana calls him Clark and he ignores it. When she calls him Kal responds. Yet at the end, when everything has been resolved, he is Clark again, at the restaurant, with Diana and Bruce .
I wish Alex Ross did movie posters instead of the photoshopped crap they do today -_-
Oh my goodness, beautiful artistry.
I still remember buying the first edition print of Peace On Earth, THE definitive Superman story to me in terms of the character's essence. I read it numerous times to the point of internalizing it. Thank you, Mr Ross, for reminding me why people fell in love with him in the first place.
One of my favorite Superman books ever!
Alex Ross, parabéns pelo seu trabalho! eu tenho essa revista, é belíssima! manda me um oi para o Brasil!!! abraços!!!
anyone know the music?
Hi Mr. Ross, I'm from Belém, Pará Brazil and I really appreciate and admire your job and I confess that when I read a comic book with your illustration, I got crazy 'cause it's so perfect !!! Congrats for your art ! You're a great artist!
Been watching some of Jim Lee's livestreams and was just thinking how cool it would be if Alex started doing some on here or Twitch of him just drawing/painting things. These produced videos are fine but personally I find livestreams more interesting/real.
Those Graphic novels that Ross/Dini did were fantastic.
My all-time favorite Superman comic. Incredibly underrated.
Comic’s very own Norman Rockwell. Absolutely beautiful work.
Long live the great Jack Kirby, and thank the mighty Lord, for Alex Ross talent.
Why am I just finding out about this channel. Love this man
Some people get Superman, and some people want to make him into something he's not. Alex Ross gets Superman. Period.
Master Pizza exactly some ppl get superman other people want to make superman a god or a devil they cant accept a simple good person with unlimited power
Superman: Peace on Earth is actually my favorite comic of all time. Not only does the art perfectly reflect the feelings in the story, the talents of yourself and Paul Dini bind the soul, humanity, and overall personality with Superman. I personally love it when Superman fights his classic rogues gallery, but when he tries to tackle real world problems, like starvation and passing on good intentions, that's what really makes me want to be Superman. That's about the most inspirational dream I've held on to in my life.As far as I think, you're the most talented and influential Superman artist (and writer) this world has had the fortune of having. I'd get a trade paperback that collaborates of all your Superman stories in one, or a new Superman story of yours, in a heartbeat. I'll take what I've gotten, though. I don't think it can be done better than it already has anyways. Thank you, Mr. Ross.
You are a truly talented artist, Mr. Ross. Your rendition of Superman brilliantly captures the true depth of the character, and makes feel like he flesh and bone. Well done.
I remember being given a copy of Shazam: Power of Hope when it first came out back in 2000. I was only 5 years old, going through chemotherapy, and my parents thought it would cheer me up a little since I liked superheroes. I can't express how impactful it was seeing him visit sick children, feeling as if I was one of them.
Did you make it?
Christopher Cano that's beautiful. I hope you're doing much better than you were then.
Zack Snyder needs to go back to school...,
godinacape: I think you MISSED the point, duh. Snyder is dark and angry while Ross is peaceful and pleasent. How did you get that so backwards??? Ross shows the shining beacon of POSITIVITY, snyder is murderer yelling angry person. Youre totally blind since you can't see the ACTUAL costume is not honored AT ALL...not even the same clothing material!! lol
Ladiesman1447 and he was failing to do that well.
Snyder understands Superman perfectly, he was just showing a more human and troubled version of the character before he evolved into 'classic' Superman.
godinacape Snyder is all about style and tone. He completely misses the IDEA of Superman. Alex Ross understands the concept of Superman. What Peace on Earth gets right about Supes that Snyder's films don't is that Superman never dismisses hope. In the comic, Superman realizes that there are things that not even his vast powers can resolve. But he doesn't stop. Snyder's Superman was cynically crafted to appeal to our current obsessions with anti-heroes and seeing white knights dragged through the muck. A "gritty" response to Superman "oh no he doesn't punch enough" Returns. People need to realize: Superman is a big blue "Boy Scout", the old-fashioned champion of truth, justice and the American Way. You can drop him in a hopeless world and he will do what he can to instil hope. Sure he will struggle, question himself, but never will he completely be devoid of optimism. Because Superman IS BETTER THAN US. That's the idea. He was blessed enough to be raised by the most humble, waem hearted, salt of the earth people in the Kents who taught a demigod how to always believe in hope and the human race.
Stingerbillion snyders visuals are cluttered migraine inducing mess. his "message" are ham fisted clumsy go nowhere grabge, his dailogue is complete trash. he is terrible. the only good movies he has made is where he recreates someone else vision and he sticks strongly to the source material.
I've imagine that older teen and 20-something Clark journeyed around the world many times, getting to know the Earth, its people, its life (animals, plants, fish, birds...), and growing to love it all and feeling a strong responsibility to protect everything as much as possible. He can't stop volcanoes and hurricanes, true (and maybe he shouldn't try), but he can help people, animals survive and inspire others to do the same just as he has been inspired by "weak" (non Super) humans. Alex Ross, and before him Curt Swan, creates "my" Superman :)
Darth, that's an interesting thought/idea. But could Clark stand back and watch while war was going on all around him? Sure, he's pretty much invulnerable, but he'd have a hard time simply observing and reporting and not trying to stop the crazy things he'd see going on around him. But that would be the story probably :) Start writing your fanfic!
DebbyAbqNM I always thought Clark would fare better as a war journalist, going all over the world and barely showing up at the Daily Planet at all and despite that everyone knowing who he is.
Carlos, great observations!
DebbyAbqNM This Superman is what i think of if Christopher Reeves was in a modern movie with a director who actually get it the character. Seeing this makes sense to me why Christopher Reeves Superman was so beloved. When they say that is my Superman .This is the reason why.It is not the image of Superman. It always was about the character of Clark Kent and Superman. Both characters are share the same personality traits. Henry Cavill Superman must be in line with what Christopher Reeves Superman represented. What is shown here is what Superman is all about. Henry Cavill must not be afraid to channel Christopher Reeve Superman into his Superman. When you see the new you will also see the old. They must be as one.Mann i love this book .
This is the superman I want to see all the artists and movies strive for.
Christopher Reeve was my first Superman and so for me will always be the quintessential live action Man of Steel. But Alex's Superman feels definitive and distilled down to his pure essence.
With all due respect to Henry, Dean, Brandon, for their great interpretations, everyone will agree that Christopher Reeve was THE Superman, and it's good to know these other actors acknowledge that and acknowledge they were inspired by him.
Sash As Filmmaker I could not have said it better. Superman in the 40s is the REAL man of steel, all the other versions of him are just ameliorated versions.
Now we need a video of Batman War on Crime
Haha! It doesn't take super-vision to see that coming.
We need a video for each of the 5 remaining tabloid books.
Loving the longer-format videos, excellent insight into the creative process of a modern master.
The degree he describes his work or before he approach a work, is superb that whenever he finishes it and he talks about it, you can feel that he is so happy and satisfied. Each is a labor of love.
MAKE CGI ANIMATION WITH ALEX ROSS ART. I WILL GIVE YOU MY MONEY
You sir are probably one of if not the only one who truly gets and captures Superman in all his essence. Love your work
I absolutely LOVED Peace On Earth. It is amazingly beautiful! Truly gorgeous!
Superman: Paz na Terra
O melhor, Alex Ross!
One of the greatest Superman stories of all time. Henry's Superman reminds me of your work, Alex.
God damn...if i had money, id pay this guy to make me LotR picture..... and few others
Great vid/job!Superman Is My Favorite Superhero!
The one thing about Alex's Superman that is spellbinding has nothing to do with the character, I am stunned how he creates a city landscape with essentially watercolors, that to me is mindblowing!
Great point. There have been a few times where I've seen people on the internet boil Ross' art to him dressing up his friends in costumes, and they seem to conveniently forget everything else he paints.
Alex Ross’s art can inspire anyone to draw. The way he uses a pencil and brush, it’s amazing. His art will live on. Now and forever.
He can inspire all of us to draw. None of us will ever be as good as him. But is that not the point of heroes?
Alex Ross, if you are reading this message, I hope that you can do an animated project based off of your amazing artwork in the future someday. Would love to see how your characters move and interact through your artworks
Like "loving vincent"? Hell yes!
